Walk
- "Walk" redirects here. For other uses, seeWalk (disambiguation).
Walking is a form of ground-based movement slower thandashing. It is performed by slowly tilting forward on thecontrol stick ord-pad while on the ground. InSmash games that can be played without tap jump, it's possible to walk by tilting the control stick diagonally up in the direction players want to walk to. While it is slower than dashing (though by exactly how much is dependent on the character), characters retain the use of theirtilts andsmash attacks while walking, giving it technical use. Characters have three different walking speeds depending on how far thecontrol stick is tilted, with the slowest of these animations often being a sort of tip-toeing. InBrawl, however, if a character is controlled with aWii Remote, they will always walk at their max speed. Pressing the attack button while walking will result in aforward tilt. This fact makes a fast walking speed considered an advantage, which is especially true for characters likeSquirtle,Marth, andDonkey Kong. Walking speed is measured inunits perframe.
Super Smash Bros. walking speeds[edit]
The control stick's horizontal position is a value between 8-80 (8 is the minimum amount required for a walk and the stick can reach 127, though it is capped at 80) and is multiplied by their "stick multiply" value. However, to walk in the opposite direction, the horizontal position of the control stick must be at least 20.
