Viridi (ナチュレ,Nature) is a character from theKid Icarus series.

Origin[edit]

Viridi's first appearance inKid Icarus Uprising.

Introduced inKid Icarus: Uprising, Viridi is the Goddess of Nature. She is known for having a strong hatred for all humans, due to the actions of some harming the forests and wildlife of the planet, as well as for the Underworld Army, due to their complete disregard for life. When introduced, she is an antagonist who commands the "Forces of Nature", her army of troops made up of organic materials. Her goal is to eradicate humans for damaging the ecosystem, and does so by usingReset Bombs that cause mass destruction before overgrowing the area of impact. AfterPit escapes his seal from the Chaos Kin, Viridi gives Pit thePower of Flight in the same wayPalutena does and assists him in his mission of freeing Palutena from the Chaos Kin's mind control.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]

As a background character[edit]

Viridi's appearance in the background of Reset Bomb Forest.

TheReset Bomb Forest stage inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS depicts a battle between human nations fromKid Icarus: Uprising. After a minute has elapsed, Viridi appears in the background, far away from the stage, yells"Good riddance, human scum! The world is better off without you!" and drops a Reset Bomb, triggering the stage's transformation into an overgrown ruin. Upon reverting back to its original form, she will yell"Go! Stubborn vermin!" Both of these clips are recycled fromKid Icarus: Uprising.

InSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, Viridi appears alongside Palutena in several ofPit'sSmash Taunt to remark on other fighters. These conversations reuse her various portraits fromKid Icarus Uprising. Viridi also makes a brief voiced cameo inPalutena'sreveal trailer, commenting on how "angels only talk big".

As a costume[edit]

A paiddownloadable contentcostume forMii Swordfighters based on Viridi was made available on September 30th, 2015. Nintendo also released aQR code for those who wish to have the exact Mii used in the costume's advertising.

Trophy[edit]

Viridi's trophy is exclusive toSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

NtscViridi, Goddess of Nature
PalViridi
NTSCThe goddess of nature, she believes it is her duty to return heaven and earth to their pure states, and so she labels humans as contaminants of nature that should be eliminated. She butts heads with human-protecting Palutena but hates soul-stealing Hades even more.
PALThe Goddess of Nature – of the earth and all living things. Viridi strongly believes in natural balance, and as far as she's concerned, humans throw that balance off entirely. She hates mankind for that, and Palutena for protecting them, but at the same time, she's not exactly keen on the Underworld Army's soul harvesting, either.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

As a background character[edit]

Viridi inUltimate

Viridi reprises her role in the Reset Bomb Forest stage and inPalutena's Guidance conversations. In the former, she is now a fully rendered and animated CGI model rather than a static image.

As a costume[edit]

Both the Viridi Wig and the Viridi Outfit reappear inUltimate, now included in the base game.

Spirit[edit]

Viridi also appears as a Legend-classsupport spirit.

InAdventure Mode: World of Light, Viridi is presumably one of the countless spirits captured byGaleem during his takeover of the universe. Viridi's spirit is located in the shrouded woods section ofThe Light Realm.

Viridi uses aMii Swordfighter wearing the Viridi Wig and Outfit and is fought on theReset Bomb Forest stage, which features Viridi as a stage element. She is fought along aGiantKirby representing her minion, Cragalanche. During the battle, the player's fighter must defeat the Mii Swordfighter in fifty-five seconds, referencing how Pit must prevent Viridi from detonating a Reset Bomb on the clashing human armies. Also, the Giant Kirby frequently usesStone, referencing Cragalanche's rocky exterior and ground slam attacks.

Viridi can besummoned using the cores ofXerneas,Alraune, a Neutral type, and a support type.

Trivia[edit]

Viridi's beta appearance.
  • Early builds ofSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS featured Viridi with roses on her headband when she appeared in the background of the Reset Bomb Forest stage. The portrait in the final game, however, lacks these roses.
  • Viridi is the onlyKid Icarus character to have her voice actor changed fromSSB4 toUltimate.
  • When editing a Mii Swordfighter with the Viridi costume, the staff appears to be much larger and longer; however, it reverts to normal size in a match.
  • In the Korean localisation ofUltimate, every line in Palutena's Guidance where Viridi is referenced is rephrased to avoid referring to her by name, presumably because the conversations use the Japanese dub while Viridi retains her English name.
