Triforce of Wisdom (知恵のトライフォース,Triforce of Wisdom) isZelda'sFinal Smash inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Overview[edit]

Zelda traps the opponent with theTriforce of Wisdom itself. It is only able to affect one opponent at any given time. However, it is notoriously hard to escape from due to the size and strength of the move'svacuum hitboxes, making it almost guaranteed for an opponent to get caught within it, and when Zelda performs the final blow, it can also deal some damage to nearby opponents that aren't trapped on the Triforce. If the moves ends with the trapped opponent below 100%, they are sent flying out; otherwise, the opponent isinstantly KO'd. As the move itself deals 67%, it can guarantee a KO at very low percents, specifically starting at 34%. As a result of its strengths, it is rather infamous for being extremely effective in a 1v1 setting, and some consider it to be the bestFinal Smash in the game.

InStamina Mode, if an opponent is caught by the initial vacuum and loses their last stock because of the vacuum's damaging hitboxes, any other nearby opponents will still be sucked towards the Triforce and will not get affected by it, apart from the move constantly attempting and failing to drag another victim into the Triforce.

Instructional quote[edit]

Super Smash Bros. UltimateMove ListZelda (SSBU)Zelda uses the Triforce of Wisdom against an opponent, damaging and launching them. If the opponent has 100% damage or more, they are sealed away (and KO'd) instead of being launched.

Origin[edit]

The Triforce of Wisdom.

The three pieces of theTriforce are a sacred relic inThe Legend of Zelda lore, with legend stating that anyone who collects all three pieces of the Triforce will be able to grant themselves a wish. While there were originally only two pieces in the seminalThe Legend of Zelda, being that of wisdom and power,Zelda II: The Adventure of Link introduced a third piece, courage, and the pieces have been depicted as a trio ever since. It is stated inA Link to the Past that the three Golden Goddesses,Din,Nayru, andFarore, left it behind after they created the land ofHyrule, andHylia was tasked with watching over the land and the Triforce.

While the Triforce has not appeared in everyZelda game, the games that do feature it have the three pieces of the Triforce spread across the main characters in the series - typicallythe one with the blood of the goddess holds the Triforce of Wisdom, the left piece; thereincarnation ofDemise holds the Triforce of Power, the top piece; and thespirit of the hero holds the Triforce of Courage, the right piece.

Zelda with the Triforce of Wisdom highlighted on her hand inOcarina of Time.

The Final Smash is very similar to the final battle against Ganon inOcarina of Time, where Zelda used the power of her Triforce to trap Ganon so that Link can deal the final blow.

InBreath of the Wild, Princess Zelda is said to have a "sealing power" that she has been unable to harness for most of her life, which causes much strife between her and her father. She eventually learns to use this magic. When she uses it onDark Beast Ganon following the final battle, he disappears in a similar vein to this Final Smash, although it is a bubble shape with the entire Triforce overlayed instead of only a single piece of the Triforce.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • If this move is used againstDiddy Kong usingMonkey Flip at the same time, Zelda will retain her Final Smash glow, but the environment will no longer be dim, and the game will be in a glitched state where Zelda is unable to use her Final Smash. Additionally, Smash Balls will not appear while in this state. KOing Zelda fixes the glitch.
    • With proper timing, the camera may even lock in its zoomed in state.
