Fire (ファイア,Fire) isMr. Game & Watch'sup special move.
Overview[edit]
Two firefighters appear under Mr. Game & Watch and bounce him upwards using their trampoline. InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. 4, the firefighters have a slightpush effect around them. Mr. Game & Watch deals 6% damage and decentknockback on the way up before reaching the peak of his ascent and falling. Ironically, despite its name, the move does no flame damage.
InSuper Smash Bros. Melee, Mr. Game & Watch becomeshelpless at the peak of the jump. SinceBrawl, he instead opens a parachute to slow down his descent, allowing for much greater horizontal coverage for recoveries. The parachute can be canceled at any time by using any other move and will not cause him to become helpless, but it won't be able to used again until after landing. The combination of this and his down aerial, which makes him plummet at a very high speed in contrast, gives him a unique movement option. If the parachute is canceled as soon as it opens at the peak of the ascent, he willfast-fall, allowing formindgames.
If aCPU Mr. Game & Watch uses this attack and fails torecover, it will often spamJudge until it surpasses the lowerblast line. InBrawl, this can be used to perform theparasol glitch.
InUltimate, the move has been heavily buffed, as the initial windbox has been replaced with a frame 3 damaging hitbox (now giving it the fastest startup out of all of Mr. Game & Watch's attacks). Combined with the move grantingintangibility during its ascent and the ability to cancel the descent into any action, Fire is frequently considered the bestout of shield option in the entire game: it has immense overall utility, such as granting an incredibly safe escape option, combo potential at a range of percents, andedgeguarding recovering opponents.
Instructional quotes[edit]

Customization[edit]
Special Move customization was added inSuper Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:
- Fire: Default.
- Heavy Trampoline: Does 16% damage. Less vertical recovery, only has a hitbox at the very beginning of the launch (not on the way up) and includes the parachute. The parachute slows Mr. Game & Watch's descent more than the default.
- Trampoline Launch: Does 8% damage, 12% if it hits at the start. More vertical recovery, is faster and has a powerful hitbox on the way up. Doesn't include the parachute. Works similar toMelee's version of Fire, even having Mr. Game & Watch fall noticeably faster after using the move, emulatingMelee's heavier fall physics, though this can be cancelled by using an aerial or airdodge.
Spirits[edit]
Fire appears as an Ace-classsupport spirit, and the parachuting character is featured on theParachute spirit.
Fire uses an army ofMr. Game & Watch puppet fighters and is fought on theFlat Zone X stage. During the battle, the player's fighter must defeat the fighters within one minute while the Mr. Game & Watch puppet fighters frequently use Fire.

Origin[edit]
Fire is aGame & Watch game that released on December 4, 1981 as part of the Wide Screen series. The player takes the role of two firefighters trying to save people from a burning building. Various people jump out of various floors at various speeds, with the player's job being to use a trampoline to bounce them into the awaiting Ambulance on the other side of the screen.
The parachute introduced inBrawl as part of the move (also used inMelee as a neutral aerial) comes from the gameParachute, released on June 19, 1981 also as part of the Wide Screen series, in which person in a rowboat tries to catch skydiving paratroopers from a helicopter to prevent them from falling into water.

Trivia[edit]
- Fire is the only special move that does not change Mr. Game & Watch's appearance inUltimate.
- Although the move has changed inBrawl onward to include the parachute from the game of the same name, it keeps the name of only the first action of the move even though a parachute does not appear inFire.
- InSuper Smash Bros. Melee, Fire is tied for the fastest attack in the game, with the first hitbox starting on frame one. The only other moves inMelee that are frame one are Jigglypuff'sRest andFox andFalco's Reflector.
