Tournament summary[edit]
Despite being a major, the top 2 seeds of the event,Sparg0 andGlutonny, chose to play secondaries for the majority of the tournament. Glutonny chose to playLink, and would fall early, losing toMezcaul andM.Pop0 for 17th, tying several other events as Glutonny's worst performance at a European event, and becoming the first 95 Kings of Fields event where he did not place in the top 4. Conversely, Sparg0 went on to win the event playing primarilyPiranha Plant andPyra/Mythra, only usingCloud againstTarik in Winner Semi-Final. As such, this became the first major won by Piranha Plant, one of the best tournaments for Piranha Plant ever alongsideBrood's run atUmebura SP 4, and was the final event Sparg0 needed to become the first North American to complete theUltimate Triple Crown.
In addition, this event is known for Mezcaul's run to 3rd, where he defeated Glutonny 3-2 andLuugi 3-2. This not only became the first time aRidley player placed top 8 at a major sinceTweek's run atCollision 2019, but was also the highest a Ridley player had placed at a major. Finally, Tarik's run to 4th marks the best major performance for aGreninja player, ending a 3-way tie for the achievement that included him,Lea, andTsuna at six different events.
Finally,Zemmol's 7th place finish marked the first time aCloud player other than Sparg0 finished within top 8 of a major sinceYOC's run atMaesuma TOP 8 nearly 3 years prior.
