Texas is aSmash region that encompasses theU.S. state of the same name. Due to the significant travel time it takes to traverse across the large state, Texas is further divided into smaller subregions, surrounding its largest cities: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
Texas was home to a significantSuper Smash Bros. Melee scene since the game's early competitive life, notably hosting the major eventsMOAST 3 andMLG Dallas 2006. However, the region became better known for being one of the big fourSuper Smash Bros. Brawl regions (along with theTristate Area,Southern California, andFlorida) for most ofBrawl's competitive lifespan thanks to theWHOBO series and the performances from players such asGnes,Trela, andUltimate Razer. Though the inactivity of its players right before the release ofSuper Smash Bros. 4 weakened the region, it continued to grow throughout the 2010s, thanks to the rise of tournament series such asLow Tier City and the appearances of many larger esports events in Texas, includingDreamHack andPAX Arena. As such, the region became known for hosting some of the strongestSuper Smash Bros.,Smash 4 andProject M scenes in the United States, with many players rising to the national spotlight during this time, such asCosmos,Lima,Sethlon,tacos, andZero. Though it weakened once again inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate after the decline or absence of the region's bestSmash 4 players, the post-COVID-19 pandemic period saw the region rebound thanks to the rise of new players such asSalt inMelee andSHADIC inUltimate, as well asMuteAce moving to Texas during this time.
