| “ | This stage has a large platform on the right and two smaller ones on the left. Depending on your fighting style, you might prefer one side over the other. This stage comes with music tracks for 16 characters. When the clock starts running out or if your stock goes down to one, the music may get more intense! | ” |

Suzaku Castle (朱雀城,Suzaku Castle) is a stage inSuper Smash Bros. 4, released asdownloadable content on June 14th, 2015 in a bundle withRyu. The stage returns inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Stage overview[edit]
The stage takes place on the rooftop of the Japanese castle at sunset. It features two long walk-off platforms on the right side, and two smaller floating platforms on the left side. Only the lowerplatform on the right is solid. The position of the lower-left platform is a fair distance away from the main platform, and provides a challenge for more than one character to stand on it, allowing forcamping. Signposts located on the longest platform will break if a fighter is launched past them. The signposts are eventually repaired after all of them are broken.
Ω forms and Battlefield form[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. 4, theΩ form of the stage consists of only the main platform centered without the smaller platforms and walk-off areas. The signposts can be broken even on this version of the stage, making it the only Ω Form stage to have interactive parts, albeit them being static. Both Ryu Stage Type A and B and Ken Stage Type A and B will change to become faster on the Ω form as well.
InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Ω form andBattlefield form are very similar to the Ω form inSSB4; however, the main platform is resized and reshaped to matchFinal Destination andBattlefield, respectively. The threesoft platforms of the Battlefield form resemble the platform on the bottom left of the normal form. As with some other Ω forms, the stage select preview of the Ω form of this stage is an early version of the stage, and the final version differs slightly in design.
Origin[edit]
InStreet Fighter II, Suzaku Castle (Japan) is Ryu's stage. Like allStreet Fighter stages it is a simple flat surface with no hazards. The twilight setting and breakable signs in theSmash stage are inspired by the version of this stage which appears in the originalStreet Fighter II: The World Warrior.[1]
The coloration of the stage was updated inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate to more closely resemble the stage's appearance inStreet Fighter V.
Tournament legality[edit]
This stage is banned from tournaments (except the Ω form) due to containing a walk-off blast line, and that the stage layout forces most of the gameplay to take place on the right hand side of the stage.

Trivia[edit]
- On this stage, if the current music playing isRyu Stage Type A/B orKen Stage Type A/B and either thetimer has reached 30 seconds; the last opponent has one stock left in astock match; the last opponent's HP is under 100 in astamina match; or duringSudden Death, a sped-up version of the respective song will play. This referencesStreet Fighter II, where the stage music speeds up when a fighter loses half of their health.
- This also applies to the stage themes of all otherStreet Fighter characters inUltimate with both types, except for the four original arrangements (Ryu, Ken, Guile and Vega).
- This makes Suzaku Castle one of the five stages in theSmash Bros. series that changes music when there is 30 seconds left during a timed match or when Sudden Death occurs, the others areMushroom Kingdom (SSBM),Mushroom Kingdom (SSB),Mushroom Kingdom II, andMoray Towers.
- The kanji written on the destructible signs are "風林火山" (Wind, Forest, Fire, Mountain), a Japanese shorthand of the expression "As swift as wind, as gentle as forest, as fierce as fire, as unshakeable as mountain,"[2] in reference toThe Art of War. These same kanji appear on Ryu's obi.
- Suzaku Castle is one of four stages in theSuper Smash Bros. series to originate from a fighting game other thanSmash itself, with the others beingKing of Fighters Stadium,Spring Stadium, andMishima Dojo.
- Despite being aStreet Fighter stage, neither Ryu nor Ken are fought on this stage for their unlocking battles inUltimate. Instead, the former is fought onBattlefield, possible referencing his reveal trailer inSSB4 where he first appears, and the latter is fought onBoxing Ring, referencing his andIncineroar's reveal trailer.
- However, Ryu is fought on this stage in theWorld of Light.
- Suzaku Castle is the only third party stage to not have characters from the series make an appearance as background elements or a hazard.
- InUltimate, the followingAssist Trophies cannot appear on this stage:Waluigi,Klaptrap,Knuckle Joe,Samurai Goroh,Black Knight,Kapp'n,Devil,Sablé Prince,Starfy,Nikki andDillon. Additionally, the followingPoké Ball Pokémon cannot be summoned:Lugia,Palkia,Giratina,Arceus,Genesect,Fletchling andXerneas.
