Super Sudden Death
Super Sudden Death or300% is aSpecial Melee mode inSuper Smash Bros. Melee, aSpecial Brawl andSpecial Smash option inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U respectively, and appears as its own, separate mode under Special Smash inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. Although not selectable as aSpecial Smash option, players can manually set their starting damage to 300% inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS to achieve a similar experience. This mode is a standalone version ofSudden Death that can be accessed at any time.
Overview[edit]
This mode starts in a similar manner to a regular match, with players selecting the rules, a stage, and their characters. However, when the game starts, thedamage percentage for all players is automatically set to 300% for every stock. This is much likeSudden Death which occurs after a tie in a standardVs. Mode match. Just like Sudden Death, the screen will gradually start to shrink after a while, and laterBob-ombs will start falling inUltimate, but it can be disabled.
Super Sudden Death radically changes the way the game is played as virtually any attack withknockback scaling canKO the opponent on most stages. Extremely fast characters such asSonic and characters with powerful projectiles such asSamus excel in this mode due to either overwhelming opponents with many attacks or securing a KO from a distance. EvenPit'sarrows can cause significant knockback in this mode. Conversely, heavy, powerful characters such asBowser have the greatest chance at survivability due to not being sent flying as much, and they typically only need a single attack to connect to win the game. The middleweights that are not particularly fast or particularly strong struggle the most due to having the worst of both worlds.
InMelee, the songs on MushroomKingdom andKingdom II are changed toMushroom Kingdom (Finale) andMushroom Kingdom II (Finale), respectively, during this mode (if one does not play theDr. Marioalternate music), as they are in the regular Sudden Death. InBrawl, this mode is also used inCo-Op Event 3: Fastest, Shortest, Sudden Death, but it only lasts for ten seconds. InUltimate, this mode has unique Special Rules, which allow to toggle the Screen Shrink and falling Bob-ombs.
