Smash 64 combo contest[edit]

Each contestant gets 3 minutes to perform a combo. They can use any character, any stage, and any item. Once the three minutes are up, or when the contestant finishes his or her combo, five judges rate the combo, giving it a number between 1-10. Those points are totalled up into a final number. The higher the score, the better chance in moving on.

In the first round, the top four contestants move on. In the second round, the top two contestants move on. In the final round, both contestants have to do two combos. Although total points are recorded, whoever moves on is chosen solely through said round's points.

Smash Masters exhibitions[edit]

Rules: All fiveSmash games are played in a single elimination best-of-three format (4 stocks forSmash 64 andMelee, 3 forBrawl andUltimate, and 2 forSmash 4). A "big victory" is earned by winning a game with a high enough amount of stocks left (3 forSmash 64 andMelee, and 2 forBrawl,Smash 4, andUltimate).

The winner is determined by:

• This is the first majorMelee tournament to implement a ledge grab limit, with a limit of 60 ledge grabs.
• This is the first year wherePrince did not win theSmash 64 combo contest, breaking his three-year streak.
• This is the second year in a row whereLarry Lurr placed second in the Smash Masters exhibition event.
• The Top 3 players inUltimate singles (MkLeo,Samsora, andTweek) had the exact same placings as they did inSmash 4 atSuper Smash Con 2018 the year prior.
• This tournament became the only major in 2019 to featureSmash 4 as a main event, and the first tournament to do so sinceUltimate's release.
• This tournament marks the highest ever placing of aMii Brawler main at aSmash 4 major, withSells placing 5th on theWii U singles event.
• This is the firstBrawl tournament whichNairo entered and failed to win sinceSuper Smash Con 2016.
• This currently ties asSuPeRbOoMfAn's worst placing at a Smash 64 tournament, with him finishing at 5th.
  • It also ended his 18 tournament winning streak.
• This is the first tournament sinceShine 2017 wherePlup went soloSamus in aMelee tournament. He had previously challengedAxe to complete one of hisSuper Mario Maker 2 levels, with the promise of going Samus at Super Smash Con 2019 in singles if Axe completed it, which he did after 20+ hours.
  • Interestingly enough, Axe and Plup met in loser's side of bracket, where Axe eliminated Plup 3-0. Some have jokingly suggested that this was Axe's "master plan" the entire time, though their meeting was the result of uncharacteristic underpeformance by both.
• This is the first tournament whereLeffen andSalem finally met in bracket following their Twitter "drama", with Leffen taking the set 2-1.
• Despite making it out of Round 1 ofUltimate singles pools on the winners side,Cosmos would end up dropping out of the tournament before Round 2 due to health issues.
• Due to confirmed accusations of bracket manipulation,CaptainZack was banned from competing in the tournament but was allowed to attend as a spectator.
• This tournament marks the lowest placement for several players inUltimate singles:
  • Dabuz with a placement of 49th.
  • Raito with a placement of 65th, tied with his lowest placement inWii U singles, gotten at last year's Smash Con.
  • Mr.R with a placement of 97th.
  • Goblin with a placement of 129th.
• ProtoBanham dropped out of the tournament to treat his kidney stones.
