Article on Starfy WikiStarfy

Starfy (スタフィー,Stafy), previously known asStafy inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl and other media before the localization, is the main character of theThe Legendary Starfy series. The first three games in the series appeared on theGame Boy Advance, and the latest two on theNintendo DS. His trademark move is hisStar Spin attack. His most recent game,The Legendary Starfy for the Nintendo DS, is the first game in the series to be released outside of Japan.

Origin[edit]

Starfy inDensetsu no Starfy (Legendary Starfy orLegend of Starfy).

Starfy is the prince of thePufftop Kingdom, which is found high in the sky above the ocean. His adventures involve resolving a crisis in his kingdom, or another kingdom (in the last twoLegendary Starfy games) with help from his friendsMoe the clam,Old Man Lobber the lobster and his younger sisterStarly, among others.

When Starfy appears inSuper Smash Bros. as an Assist Trophy, a short melody will be heard. This melody plays in the first fourLegendary Starfy games for when Starfy or Starly faces a boss as part of the tuneConfrontation with the Boss.

The Starfy Assist Trophy attacks using the neutral form of hisStar Spin (known as the Spin Attack in Japan). This is Starfy and Starly's most basic attack in theLegendary Starfy games that was originally taught to Starfy byHerman inDensetsu no Starfy and is described as Starfy's famous move inThe Legendary Starfy, though Starfy often forgets it. In theLegendary Starfy games it can be upgraded two times, to the Mighty Star Spin (Spin Attack level 2 in Japan), and then the Ultra Star Spin (Spin Attack level 3 in Japan).

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

As anAssist Trophy[edit]

Starfy appears as anAssist Trophy inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl. A fanfare plays upon appearing before he starts performing his spin attack, which can briefly trap an opponent, somewhat likeToon Link'sSpin Attack. However, Starfy's spin attacks are very weak, and similar toLakitu, Starfy can be attacked and knocked away. If he receives a high amount of damage, however, he will explode, which gives highknockback anddamage, which can act as a deterrent of sorts to prevent combatants from attacking him. If Starfy is somehow knocked away, he can stun opposing players upon descending for about two seconds and deal a large amount of damage, leaving said players open for attack from the summoner.

Starfy has a spawn chance of40/760, making him the most common Assist Trophy summon.

Trophy[edit]

Starfy appears as a regular trophy, which is unlocked by clearingTarget Smash!! Level 1 with at least 10 different characters. InBrawl, his name is spelled "Stafy", asBrawl was released before the firstStarfy game was released outside of Japan, which gave him his localized name.

Stafy gets help from his friendsKyorosuke the clam and the wizenedLobjii-san. Stafy sometimes dons apig suit and throws pork cutlets. InDensetsu No Stafy 3, Stafy meetsWario and goes with him to steal thetreasures of the deep.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]

As an Assist Trophy[edit]

Starfy inSuper Smash Bros. 4.

Starfy re-appears inSuper Smash Bros. 4 as an Assist Trophy, functionally identically as he did inBrawl, albeit he loses his explosion attack and can be KO'd if he takes enough damage.

Starfy has a spawn chance of24/1254. He cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies to both games and only the base form unless noted otherwise):

Trophy[edit]

The Wii U version of the Starfy trophy states thatThe Legendary Starfy was released on 09/2002 for the Nintendo DS; in actuality, it was released on June 8, 2009. This was fixed in an update. In the Japanese version, his debut is listed asLegend of Starfy for the Game Boy Advance, released on 09/2002, which is where the erroneous date listing originates.

NTSCStarfy is the absentminded prince of the Pufftop Kingdom, and the hero of The Legendary Starfy. Is he a star? A starfish? His commitment to helping you when summoned is obvious, even if his species isn't. He'll use a Star Spin attack, which isn't all that powerful. It's the thought that counts!

PALStarfy is Pufftop Kingdom's scatterbrained prince and the hero of The Legendary Starfy. He looks like a star, or maybe a starfish – no one knows what he really is. When released, he'll boldly attack enemies with his Star Spin. It's not a very powerful attack, but at least he's trying!

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

As an Assist Trophy[edit]

Starfy makes a return as an Assist Trophy and acts similarly to how he did inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. 4, albeit KOing him now earns a point.

Starfy has a spawn chance of24/2086, making him one of the rarest Assist Trophy summons along withHammer Bro. He cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies only to the base form unless noted otherwise):

Spirit[edit]

Starfy also appears as an Ace-classprimary spirit. He can besummoned using the cores ofMoe,Old Man Lobber, andMermaid.

Trivia[edit]

  • InBrawl, the trophy of Starfy's sister Starly (named "Stapy" inBrawl) is indexed under the "Fighter Related" category, despite the fact that Starfy is not a playable character in the game. Furthermore, noCustom Robo,Kururin orAnimal Crossing trophies appear in the "Fighter Related" category, although Starfy,Ray Mk III,Helirin andMr. Resetti all appear as Assist Trophies.
  • Starfy is the only second-party created Assist Trophy from a non-playable universe to have appeared in all three games since the introduction of the item.
  • InBrawl andSSB4, the inside of Starfy's mouth is yellow, but his official artwork forBrawl shows it as red. It is red in-game inUltimate.
