Zain (originally known astekkenz) is aSuper Smash Bros. MeleeMarth main from Reston,Virginia who is currently residing in Blacksburg, Virginia. He is considered to be the greatest Marth player of all time and is known for his incredibly lethal punish game onspace animal players and methodical play againstfloaty characters. His playstyle redefined Marth's metagame, with his dominant records overHungrybox and otherJigglypuff players leading many to believe the matchup had shifted into Marth's favor. In addition to Marth, he is also known for being one of the few successfulRoy players in the modern offline and online metagames, playing the character under the aliasDontTestMe.
Zain's competitive career began in 2014 and he first came to prominence atThe Big House 6 in 2016, eventually making his debut on theSSBMRank that year. He rose meteorically within the following few years, eventually entering the top 10 bymid-2018 and becoming the first "Doc Kid" to win amajor after winningShine 2018. He was considered the best player in North America in 2020 following his victory atGENESIS 7 and his dominance inSlippinetplay events during theCOVID-19 pandemic. His success online translated into the post-Slippi era, where he is considered one of the best players in the metagame, having ranked 1st in2022 and from2024 to2025, placed outside the top 8 at only one event (barring sandbagging), and won numerous events, includingSupernova 2025, the largestMelee tournament of all time. Due to his success during this time and having over 20 major victories, Zain is considered one of the greatestMelee players of all time.

Zain started playing competitively in May 2014 and quickly climbed the ranks, notably winning theS@X Fall Arcadian. He gained recognition at the national level atThe Big House 6 when he defeatedPlup 2-0 in pools. He went on to place 17th after beatingKJH andTafokints. He notably took a set off ofLeffen 3-2 atSmash 'N' Splash 3 placing 13th, and sets off ofChuDat andSFAT 2-1 and 3-0 respectively atSuper Smash Con 2017, placing 5th at said event. AtSmash Summit 6, he beat bothMango and Plup to take 3rd. Finally, atShine 2018, Zain won his first major tournament, beating Mango and double eliminatingHungrybox, taking his first ever victories over the latter. Over a year later, he took his first set overMew2King atThe Big House 9, placing 2nd after losing two Game 5 sets to Mango in Grand Finals.
A few months after The Big House 9, Zain won his first supermajor atGENESIS 7 without dropping a set, defeating Hungrybox 3-1, Mango, and Hungrybox again 3-2. As tournaments switched to online play due to COVID-19, Zain continued to dominate, winning several large online events such asLudwig Ahgren Championship Series 2, 3 out of the 4Slippi Champions League events, and finallySmash Summit 10 Online to cement himself as the best online player in North America, with Mango serving as his primary rival for the title.
After losing toAxe atApex 2022, Zain had only lost to 5 players since then in serious sets:aMSa,Jmook,Cody Schwab, Leffen, and Mang0. This streak ended atLuminosity Makes Moves Miami 2024, whereAklo's Link defeated Zain 3-1 in Winner's Semi-finals.
In 2023, following a series of victories byCody Schwab, Zain, Cody Schwab, andLudwig organizeda first-to-10 match between him and Cody Schwab, the winner of which would be automatically given 1st on theSSBMRank 2023 rankings. Zain lost 7-10, ending Zain's dominant stretch and cementing Cody Schwab as best player in the world.
OtherSmash games[edit]
Zain briefly dabbled inUltimate in response toHungrybox's 90-dayUltimate detox, with Zain choosing to playUltimate for the same amount of time to "poison" himself. Zain'sTwitch chat chose his main, and he ultimately went withRoy. Although hisUltimate activity was primarily in the game'sonline mode, Zain did see some competitive play at twoCoinbox events, however he failed to win a single set.

- Zain's first gamertag, tekkenz, was coined by his father by combining Zain's favorite game at that time,Tekken, with the first letter of Zain's first name.
- Zain has a knack for a variety of comedic sketches and impressions, the latter of which include Marge fromThe Simpsons and numerousMelee players (such asWife,UnknownForce,KoreanDJ, andChuDat).
- He has imitated Chu's penchant for eating raw onions on stream, substituting an onion for an entire lime (skin and all) instead.
- Zain was the first player to make Grandmaster onSlippi with all 26 characters in theMelee rosters. He began the challenge withDr. Mario on December 26th, 2024,[2] and completed it withBowser hours before the season ended on April 21st, 2025.[3]
