RAIN (レイン) is an East Japanese smasher who is widely known in the JapaneseSmash scene.
RAIN began his Smash career playingFox inMelee, notably beatingBombsoldier in the winners bracket at theJack Garden Tournament. He was ranked 2nd on the 2010Kansai Melee Ranking Battles.
InBrawl, he mainedMeta Knight. In 2010, RAIN traveled to the United States to compete atApex 2010. He placed 7th after losing toLee Martin andAlly. In 2011, he competed atGENESIS 2 and placed 17th. He later attendedApex 2012, placing 13th after losing toESAM andDEHF, and he also notably provided Japanesecommentary forOtori's andNietono's set at grand finals. One of his biggest achievements inSmash came months later, where he won Japan's first internationalSuper Smash Bros. Brawl tournament,Sun Rise Tournament, defeating top players such asMikeneko, Otori, andVinnie. He was formerly ranked 14th on the2014 SSBBRank.
InSSB4, he mainedBayonetta, withCloud andDiddy Kong as strong secondaries, and used to mainSheik before update1.1.5 nerfed her. He was considered to be the best Sheik player in Japan and one of the best in the world when he mained her, with notable placings such as a 9th placing atEVO 2015. He was also one of the most dominant forces in theUmebura series of tournaments, with a streak of four consecutive wins in singles fromUmebura 13 untilUmebura 18. He is currently ranked 24th on theJAPAN Smash 4 Power Rankings and 66th on thePanda Global Rankings 100.
InUltimate, RAIN is aPyra andMythra main and was considered one of the bestJoker andWolf players in Japan during the early metagame, with placements such as 7thSumabato SP 6 defeatingZackray andDIO, and 17th atUmebura SP 5 defeatingRaito andShogun. His achievements led to him being ranked 45th on theJapan Player Rankings for the second half of 2019. After theCOVID pandemic, he has continued to see moderate tournament success. notably placing 9th atWAVE Champions 2 with a win overEim and 25th atDELTA 10 with a win overHuto.
RAIN is known for his ability to understand a player's habits after having played them multiple times (commonly known asdownloading) and exploiting these habits to his advantage. As a result, RAIN usually fares much better in Japanese tournaments than when he travels internationally.
