Controversy[edit]

Rumors circulated as early as 2010 in the New York City Smash scene that DJ Nintendo had a history of inappropriately approaching and messaging women. On July 3rd, 2020, Aliylian came forth onTwitter with sexual harassment allegations against DJ Nintendo, alleging that he tried to groom her from 2016-2017.[1]

In response, DJ Nintendo posted a Twitlonger that claimed to "reflect" on the situation outlined by Aliylian[2]. He stated that the exchanges did happen and did not deny it, but dismissed the allegations as her "finding" their conversation offensive. His response was largely panned by the community for not only not being an actual apology, but for attempting to distract from the allegations levied against him by constantly bringing up the contributions he had made in the past. DJ Nintendo was indefinitely banned from NYC tournaments in response to these allegations.[3]
