Cosmos, formerly known asCosmicCosmos, is a Smasher from Dallas,Texas who is currently residing inMexico.
Cosmos began competing inSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U as aPikachu player before switching toCorrin, where he broke out onto the competitive scene atThe Big House 7 by defeatingZeRo,Salem, andVoiD, en route to a 3rd place finish. He continued to rise in 2018 and consistently placed at or near the top 8 at major tournaments, which culminated in his victory atThe Big House 8, the only time a Corrin player has ever won a major. As such, he is considered the greatestSmash 4 Corrin player of all time, and due to his performances in the final year ofSmash 4, he was ranked 7th on thefinal iteration of the PGR and 30th on thePGR 100.
InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Cosmos initially playedInkling and is considered one of the greatest Inkling players of all time, frequently placing top 8 at majors during theSpring 2019 PGRU season and was a contender for the season's top 10. He eventually switched off the character, attending online events withPikachu andCorrin, before settling withPyra andMythra after the character's release. He is known for being one of the few successful solo-Pyra and Mythra players in competitive play and won his firstUltimate major with the character atGlitch - Infinite. As such, he is considered the best solo-Pyra and Mythra player in the world.
Cosmos is also a prominentdoubles player, having seen high placements with many different partners, most notablyLight, at several major tournaments in both games.
Playstyle[edit]
In Ultimate[edit]
Cosmos is characterized by his aggressive decision making and heavier utilization ofMythra compared to other top Pyra and Mythra players. He spends the majority of a stock on Mythra, using her quick mobility and strong frame data to rack up damage and force opponents into disadvantageous situations. Cosmos often switches to Pyra once they reach a high enough percent or if they're put off-stage; his Pyra is known for attempting hard reads with forward smash due to her extreme kill power. His playstyle allows him to surmount percent or stock deficits, and he is known for having the potential to beat even the best players in the world. He is also known for being proficient in theditto, forcing bothSparg0 andMkLeo, the two best players in the world at the time, to switch off at theSmash World Tour 2021 Finale.
However, Cosmos is also well-known to "choke", losing games or sets where he originally took a significant lead. His inconsistent playstyle leads him to have high highs, with major victories and multiple top 8 placements at supermajors, but also low lows, sometimes placing far below his seed or being upset by players seeded much lower than him. Fans have referred to Cosmos as the "Green Goblin", due to how dramatically his decision-making changes when he begins choking, similar tothe character of origin. This term was coined byNairo,[1] and the meme has gone so far to be mentioned in his article on thePGRU v3.[2] Likewise, Cosmos is often referred to as "Chokemos" or "Clutchmos" depending on his performance in a game.
