Sheriff is a game with a particularly long history, even among other classic Nintendo arcade games. You aimed the sheriff's gun by way of an eight-directional dial controller, which you would depress to fire. The goal of this frontier shooter was to protect the territory from various scoundrels and ne'er-do-wells.

Trivia[edit]

  • Sheriff is the first universe in the series to skip an installment, as it was represented inSuper Smash Bros. Melee, had no representation whatsoever inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, and received representation again inSuper Smash Bros. 4.
  • Erroneously, the Sheriff trophy inMelee incorrectly says that the game was released only in Japan, though it was also released in Europe and the United States (under the nameBandido and with the credit for development falsely attributed to publisher Exidy, as was the standard in the industry at the time, in the latter case).
  • Sheriff is one of the only three properties represented inSmash to debut in the 1970s, the others beingColor TV-Game andGalaxian.
