TheRecords menu is a sub-menu under theData section that appears in everySmash Bros. game so far, enabling the player to view information about various aspects of certain characters, such as totalKOs and the total time that they were used.
Overview[edit]
As the owners of a copy of a game in theSmash series play said game, various data points are tracked and calculated in the background. That data is then displayed as categories in the Records menu. These categories range from as broad as total playtime and battles fought, to as specific as amount of KOs with a particular attack orSelf destructs per character in a specific game mode. None of these statistics are required or even necessary to play the game, but the option to view them is there. The data is tracked perpetually as long as the same save file is used. Wiping a save also wipes all records.
The primary use for the records is for players to track their playing history and deduce their habits. Over time, patterns will inevitably form out of this data. Analytical players can use these patterns to assess their strengths and weaknesses to improve their gameplay. An example of this is a player has relatively low average KOs per battle, primarily kills with smash attacks and is frequently killed by throws. This data can be used to conclude that the player spams smash attacks and is frequently whiff punished, and should train to break that habit. Another example is a player that primarily uses only one fighter does surprisingly well with another fighter in the few times they branched out, inspiring them to pick up this fighter as asecondary.
The introduction of internet connectivity inBrawl onwards allows developers to track the data of players. The development teams for these games have confirmed this data has dictated post-launch content as well as future entries, such as the results ofElite Smash inUltimate influencing balance patches.
InSuper Smash Bros.[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros., only records from VS mode are stored in the data; unlike later games, other records are not recorded.
Battle Score[edit]
In the first screen of the VS Records screen, the player is given a character to character comparison sheet, showing how many KO's each character has gotten against every other character. The chart is read from the left - in other words, the number indicates how many times the character on the left has KO'd the character on the right. (i.e. In the picture below,Pikachu has knocked outNess a total of four times, and it has attained 5 KOs in the total course of the game.) In terms of both rows and columns, the characters are ordered based upon their total KO count.
Ranking[edit]
On this screen, the player is able to analyse various statistics for each character in a table (Again, sorted by number of KO's). These are:
- Win %:The percentage of the characters KOs compared to the combined total.
- KOs:How many KOs the character has given.
- TKO:How many cumulative Falls the character has, including SDs.
- SD%:The percentage of their Falls that were self destructs.
- Time:how long, in hours and minutes the player has used that character.
- Use %:The percentage of matches in which that character has been used by a player.
- Avg: The average number of participants that the character plays matches in.
Individual[edit]
This final screen lists various ranks about individual characters, in effect being a combination of the previous two screens, instead comparing individual characters. Damage received and dealt, however, is only shown on this screen.

The first screen is identical to that in64, displaying how many KO's each character has landed on every other character.
On the second page, individual statistics are given for each character separately, while the third page displays the top 5 characters for each statistic. These are:

Smash Tags[edit]
This page allows players to view the Smash Tags that have been claimed while fighting online or local wireless. Tags can be sorted based on order obtained, number of wins, tags set to favorite, and by friends. Tags can also be sold.
