TheParalyzer (パラライザー,Paralyzer) isZero Suit Samus'sneutral special move.

Overview[edit]

A shot isfired out of Zero Suit Samus's blaster, which deals a small amount of damage andparalyzes the target. It can becharged to increase the time an opponent is stunned, dealing 4-5% damage when uncharged and 6% when charged.

The paralyze effect caused by the Paralyzer is not affected byknockback resistance. Additionally, hitting a non-flinch character likePorky with this will cause them to shake as if they were stunned, though they will continue moving unhindered.

Firing a beam just before landing won't produce the Paralyzer SFX, and is referred to as silent laser.

Instructional quotes[edit]

Customization[edit]

Special Move customization was added inSuper Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

1. Paralyzer2. Blast Shot3. Electromagnetic Net
Paralyzer
Blast Shot
Electromagnetic Net
NTSC "Fire an energy blast that stuns enemies. Can be charged."

PAL "Shoots an enemy blast that stuns enemies. Can be charged."

NTSC "Shoot farther and faster than normal, but it's slightly less powerful and won't stun."

PAL "Shoots further and faster than normal, but is slightly less powerful and won't stun."

NTSC "The energy blast expands after being fired, but it has reduced range."

PAL "Shoots an energy blast that expands before your eyes. Doesn't travel far, but covers a wide area."

  1. Paralyzer: Default.
  2. Blast Shot: Acts somewhat like Fox'sBlaster, firing very weak bolts (1% uncharged, 2% charged) that cause minimal hitstun. Firing speed is increased and startup/ending lag are reduced.
  3. Electromagnetic Net (known asSpreading Shot in thePAL version): Shots travel a shorter distance, but hit multiple times before causing a paralyzing explosion at maximum distance. Also has more startup and ending lag.

Origin[edit]

Samus wielding the Emergency Pistol inMetroid: Zero Mission.
The Paralyzer fromMetroid: Other M

InMetroid: Zero Mission, on a stealth mission, Zero Suit Samus's only weapon is her "rather useless emergency pistol", which even when fully charged can only paralyze Space Pirates for a few seconds. It is, however, able to destroyBomb Blocks, which normally are only vulnerable toMorph Ball bombs.

InMetroid: Other M, the Paralyzer appears strapped to Samus's left thigh during death sequence and certain cut scenes. She only uses the gun in battle against Zebesians as she escapes the Main Sector of the exploding Bottle Ship. This time around, the Paralyzer seems to be more powerful. Unlike her earlier experience, a charged shot is not required to paralyze enemies, however a charged shot will leave enemies paralyzed longer.

The weapon itself was not referred to as a Paralyzer untilMetroid: Other M, which was produced after itsSuper Smash Bros. debut inBrawl.

  • InBrawl, the Paralyzer shot will change its direction whenperfect shielded, but the blast itself will still look like it's traveling along a straight path. This behavior is unique amongenergy projectiles.
