ThePGR v3 lists the world's top 50Super Smash Bros. for Wii Usmashers during the period of January through June 2017, as compiled byPG Stats.

Methodology[edit]

The third list evaluated tournament results at events fromMidwest Mayhem 6 toCEO 2017, and featured a larger panelist group compared to the previous rankings. As a response to feedback concerning previous tournament classifying methods, a new system was implemented, called theTournament Tier System (TTS). The TTS ranks tournaments based on four factors in their singles tournaments: entrant numbers, PGR v2 attendees, top 20 PGR v2 attendees and prize pool, and categorizes them into S, A, B and C tiers, with S signifying tournaments of the largest caliber. In order to account for and provide more balance towards tournament scenes such as Japan, which generally do not feature prize money in their tournaments, the TTS algorithm rewards top player density over prize money. Weekly and bi-weekly events will be ignored by TTS as not to affect local environments with the pressure of global rankings, and not to skew the PGR towards specific regions. The X-Factor returns, but unlike the previous lists, players outside the Top 50 were counted for the X-Factor list. Additionally, the panelist survey took place beforeMomoCon 2017, so many X-Factors appear inaccurate, or inone instance, non-existent.

Area 51[edit]

The day before they began unveiling the regular top 50 rankings, PGStats released a list of the five players who most closely missed the cut for the PGRv3 top 50, known as "Area 51." They were unranked between each other, and as such are all considered to be effectively ranked #51.

As players outside of the official rankings's top 50 were also counted for this list, there are a total of 100 players in this season's X-Factor rankings as opposed to PGR's standard 50. The X-Factor rankings only took into account tournaments that happened prior to2GGC: Nairo Saga; consequently,FOW was not included in the X-Factor rankings because he did not have the results to qualify for the PGR when the survey was given.
