Article on MiiWikiNikki

Nikki (ニッキー,Nikki) is a character making her debut as the female host and mascot of Nintendo's messaging applications,Swapnote andSwapdoodle. Originally created to give tips and rewards, she has since appeared in other Nintendo media, such asArt Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, the JapaneseNintendo News Section, a costume inSuper Mario Maker, and her stand-alone gameNikki's Travel Quiz.

Origin[edit]

Nikki introducing the player toSwapdoodle.

InSwapnote, Nikki (as a Mii) would introduce the player to the application, give tips, encourage the player, and provide Nintendo-related news updates - when the app stopped functioning online, she sent players a goodbye letter. She later appeared inArt Academy: Lessons for Everyone! where she would give an art lesson on drawing a Goomba as Spotpass DLC. Nikki performs the same roles as her two previous appearances inSwapdoodle. She has since appeared in the JapaneseNintendo News Section and her own titleNikki's Travel Quiz, being redesigned from a Mii to a 2D illustration, and given two new friends: a panda and a cat. (the latter of whom is depicted in her Spirit artwork) After the discontinuation of the Nintendo 3DS, she has seemingly been phased out in favor of another, similarly designed, mascot character named Amelia N., who informs players of new features introduced in hardware updates on the Nintendo Switch news tab through articles written in-character.

Nikki's design is based on her 2D look as opposed to her Mii appearance. She is located on the bottom left of the screen while drawing, similar to her appearance when drawing inSwapnote.

As anAssist Trophy[edit]

The host of Swapnote on the Nintendo 3DS system joins the battle. Her drawings all look very cute—but they still do serious damage, so be careful!

Nikki appears as anAssist Trophy. When summoned, she appears in the foreground and uses her pencil to make a random drawing that attacks players. She will draw three pictures total with no repeats. Afterwards, she waves then disappears.

  • Bullet Bill: Deals strong damage and knockback as it rushes off stage.
  • Monster: Breathes fire, dealing strong damage and knockback. The fire will always come out straight forward, upwards at 40 degrees, and then downwards at 40 degrees.
  • Ghost: Chases after foes and paralyzes them.
  • Flock of Birds: Charges upwards towards opponents, launching them vertically.
  • Pinwheel: Spins, blowing opponents away.
  • Smash Ball: She draws aSmash Ball which fighters can attack to activate theirFinal Smash. It can be drawn even if the item is turned off in therules. Its properties are largely copied from real Smash Balls, such as how long it stays in play and it causing damage to itself. However, some properties are copied from Smash Balls inSuper Smash Bros. 4, such as its max speed and how long it will hover between fighters and how quickly (0.8units/frame and 180 frames (3 seconds) respectively inSmash 4 vs 0.85 units/frame and 20 frames (1/3 seconds) inUltimate).

Each drawing has the same relative odds of appearing except for the Smash Ball, which has a fixed 10% chance of being the last drawing.

Nikki has a spawn chance of38/2086. She cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies only to the base form unless noted otherwise):

Nikki cannot be summoned if the following items are active and vice versa:

Trivia[edit]

Official Nikki Mii as a Mii Gunner
  • Nikki is the first Assist Trophy to not originate from a video game, instead appearing from a messaging application.
  • Though she does not otherwise appear inSuper Smash Bros. 4, official artwork of Nikki as aMii Gunner was created asa promotion(dead link) for the game'samiibo.
    • As an official Mii of Nikki exists, it is possible to create a Mii Fighter out of her.
  • Nikki is the only Assist Trophy that cannot be used inUltimate'sFinal Destination. This could be because her drawings would be difficult to see due to the stage's dark background.
    • Despite this, she can still be summoned in Final Destination's Battlefield form.
  • Nikki is the only method to make aSmash Ball appear outside of the item randomly spawning.
    • She is also the only assist character with this trait. However, she is the second assist character to be a method of getting a Final Smash, the first beingVictini.
  • Formerly, a glitch would occur on skirted characters where the pinwheel would cause their skirts to be distorted due to the windbox. This was fixed in 3.0.0.
  • Since her appearance on the lower left-hand corner is fixed no matter how the camera moves, Camera Controls are unavailable when the player pauses the match.
  • LikeVince, her function as an Assist Trophy inUltimate is similar to the bossesAdo andAdeleine from theKirby series; all of these characters remain away from the battlefield, instead drawing a series of foes to fight in their stead.
