Theminus button (or- button) refers to the small button on the left side of theWii Remote,Classic Controller, the button on the right side of theWii U GamePad andWii U Pro Controller, or the dark gray button on the left side of theNintendo SwitchJoy-Con andPro Controller. On the Wii Remote, Classic Controller, Wii U GamePad, and Wii U Pro Controller, the button is the color of the controller shell.
Overview[edit]
The minus button often has the word "select" under it, as it is frequently used as the Select button from older Nintendo consoles. When using a horizontal Wii Remote inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, the minus button is used to grab. When using the left Joy-Con horizontally inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, the minus button acts as the equivalent to thePlus button. The only function of the minus button on other controllers is selecting a random stage on the Stage selection screen inUltimate (which is shared with thePlus button).
Nintendo Switch hardware version 10.0.0 introduced the ability to map the functionality of any button to any other button from the console options menu, further diversifying how the minus button can be used inUltimate.
