TheMiiverse universe refers to theSuper Smash Bros. series' collection of properties originating from theMiiverse social network.

Franchise description[edit]

Miiverse originated as an application for the Wii U in 2012 alongside the console's launch. Users used the application to make for-fun posts, report posts and comments, and follow and befriend other users. It was later made available on the Nintendo 3DS and web browsers in 2013, with largely similar features. Although Miiverse was discontinued in late 2017, its functionality has been replicated in a handful of Nintendo Switch sequels to Wii U games, namelySplatoon 2 andSuper Mario Maker 2.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]

The Miiverse universe is represented by a single stage inSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Stage (for Wii U only)[edit]

  • Miiverse
Miiverse (DLC): A stage similar in layout toBattlefield, with a single large platform and three small, soft platforms. However, posts from Miiverse will appear in the background based on the fighters in the match. It was added as free DLC via update1.0.8.

Elements appearing in theSuper Smash Bros. series[edit]

The Miiverse stage's green and white color scheme resembles the interface and color scheme of the social network. In addition, the concept of player-made drawings appearing on the stage is based on - and made possible by - the ability to post drawings or handwritten text on Miiverse using the GamePad or 3DS bottom screen.

Miiverse also featured several communities forSmash 4, including those for photo contests, in which users could submit images of thePhoto Studio which match a certain theme. It also used to have a community representing the entireSuper Smash Bros. series prior to the release date ofSmash 4.

One post from Miiverse'sSuper Metroid Community, "y cant metroid[sic] crawl?" by PaulyU, became a meme within theMetroid fandom, and has even been acknowledged by Nintendo throughSuper Smash Bros. The NTSC description for theSamus (Varia Suit) trophy inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS highlights the fact thatSamus Aran does not need to crawl. To promoteSSB4, Nintendo of Europetweeted fighter information aboutZero Suit Samus while noting that she crawled inMetroid: Zero Mission.

Trivia[edit]

  • Miiverse is the newest major universe (represented by a character, stage, item, or Assist Trophy) to be represented inSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U (as well asSuper Smash Bros. 4 in general), with an initial date of November 2012.
  • Miiverse is the only universe with a series symbol in the series to receive no representation at all inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. This is most likely because of the discontinuation of the Miiverse service in November 2017, and the fact that it was never available on theNintendo Switch.
