Koffing (ドガース,Dogars) is a creature in thePokémon media franchise.
Origin[edit]
Koffing is aPoison-type Pokémon introduced inGeneration I, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #109 as the "Poison Gas Pokémon". It is essentially a balloon filled with poisonous gases which it uses in battle, and is also prone to exploding. It evolves intoWeezing at level 35, which has a Poison/Fairy-typeregional form endemic toGalar. It is somewhat notable for beingJames's partner Pokémon in the early episodes ofPokémon the Series, as well as being used in the games by several members ofTeam Rocket.
Smog is a Poison-type move with 30 base power (20 prior toGeneration VI), 70% accuracy, and a 40% chance ofpoisoning the target. Koffing learns the move at low levels.
Poison Gas is a Poison-type move with 90% accuracy (55% beforeGeneration V, 80% from then until Generation VI) that poisons all adjacent opponents it hits (only a single target prior to Generation V). Koffing knows the move from the start sinceGeneration II.
Smokescreen is aNormal-type move with 100% accuracy that lowers the target's accuracy by one stage. Koffing can learn the move by leveling up.
InSuper Smash Bros.[edit]
As aPoké BallPokémon[edit]
Koffing attacks withSmog, releasing gas from the pores on its body. Any opponent who touches the gas will take 3%damage and, if very close to Koffing, they will be trapped until it disappears.
Koffing has a spawn chance of1/12.
Koffing's Japanese voice clip is from thePokémon episodeIsland of the Giant Pokémon while its English voice clip is from thePokémon episodeThe Ghost of Maiden's Peak.
InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
Koffing no longer appears as a Poké Ball, being replaced in function by its evolved formWeezing. However, Koffing is mentioned in the description ofWeezing's trophy.
InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]
InSmash Run[edit]
Koffing appears as an enemy. It floats in the air; while motionless most of the time, it can occasionally float over to the player. Koffing attacks by usingPoison Gas, releasing poisonous clouds which reduce the player's stats on contact. It releases a small amount of Poison Gas every few seconds while idle, and inflates itself before releasing a large cloud of Poison Gas when approached. Koffing flies away if left alone long enough.
InSmash Tour[edit]
Koffing appears as a random event inSmash Tour. It usesSmokescreen, hiding the board with a thick cloud of purple smoke for one turn.
Trophy[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Koffing's trophy is random, but inSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U it has to be acquired by completing the full soloAll-Star Mode withJigglypuff within six minutes.

This Poison-type Pokémon's balloon-like body is filled with toxic gases. In Smash Run, it floats over to fighters and expels gas at regular intervals. If the gas touches you, the stats you've worked so hard to build up will drop! Attack while it's deflated to take it down safely, and then help yourself to the many, many items it leaves behind.
A Poison-type Pokémon that looks somewhat like a blown-up balloon. As you might be able to guess, though, it's not filled with fresh air—that's poison gas, and this Pokémon isn't shy about sharing. In Smash Tour, the gas it spews will hide spaces and any items that may be on them. The smoke should disappear by the end of the turn.:Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue (09/1998)
:Pokémon Black 2 & Pokémon White 2 (10/2012)

Trivia[edit]
- Koffing is one of two Poké Ball Pokémon to be replaced by a member of their evolution-line in later installments, instead of by another Pokémon that uses the same move, with the other beingStarmie.
- Koffing is the only Poké Ball Pokémon to have become an enemy, though it does not appear as both in the same game.
- When in Smash Tour, the game states "A wild Koffing appeared!", a homage to the wild Pokémon encounter message shown in thePokémon games.
