Hokkaidō

Hokkaidō is aSmash region, a prefecture, and the second largest island in Japan. The prefecture's capital is Sapporo. As it is both the northernmost prefecture and separated by the Tsugaru Strait, the region is relatively isolated from the rest of the country.
Sapporo hosts many of the region's top players and the majority of the tournaments, including the long-runningHokkaido Smash Tournament (HST) series and theKyokkan series. Many of the top players in the region also play online.
The region's greatest success has been inSuper Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64.Amasawa was one of the best Japanese players in the early metagame despite usingDonkey Kong, a low tier character.Jouske also achieved considerable success, having won several Japanesenationals, and was considered one of Japan's strongest players before retirement.
