TheHocotate Bomb (ドルフィン爆弾,Dolphin Bomb) is an explosive item inSuper Smash Bros. 4 andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate modeled after theHocotate Ship in thePikmin universe.
Origin[edit]
The design of the item is based on the Hocotate Ship fromPikmin 2, and its behaviour is similar to that ofEnd of Day, Olimar'sFinal Smash. However, there is also an item with identical functionality fromKid Icarus: Uprising: theBoom Rocket. Despite their human-like appearance, and increased height inSmash, the pilots inPikmin are said to be on average an inch or less tall, making the Hocotate Bomb resemble a more lore-faithful size for the Hocotate ship relative to other characters compared to otherPikmin content, though it has been clarified in a Pic of the Day that it is simply a bomb shaped like the ship and not the ship itself.[1]
Overview[edit]
When thrown, it will wait 3 seconds, or until it is attacked, before ascending offscreen into the sky, damaging and dragging any touching enemies with it for a potential KO, then crash down (a random time after 5 seconds) after its launch. If it receives enough damage before it flies off-screen, it will explode and damage anyone nearby. However, when it detonates on re-entry the resulting explosion will not harm the person who activated it. The crash landing also has ameteor effect on any opponent who makes contact with it. It's also possible to push the bomb away withwind and have it land in another spot though it may just pass through solid ground.

Trophy[edit]
- Hocotate Bomb
With the outward appearance of a Hocotate Freight ship, this is actually a bomb in disguise! Arm it by throwing it on the ground, and give it a nudge if you're impatient. It'll fly up into the sky, returning a short time later and exploding. Force your foes into the landing zone!

:Pikmin 2 (08/2004)
The flagship of Hocotate Freight has been reinvented as...a bomb! To arm it, throw it, then wait. Or give it a nudge – up to you. It'll shoot up in the air, then after a bit, fall back down to its starting point and go off. Try to remember where it was set off – you really don't want to get caught in the blast.

Trivia[edit]
- In version1.0.4 offor Nintendo 3DS, if one uses a Hocotate Bomb onMushroomy Kingdom, it's possible to see the bomb floating above the blast line, facing downward.
- The Hocotate Bomb is known in Japanese as「ドルフィン爆弾」("Dolphin Bomb"). While the Hocotate ship itself has no proper name in English, its Japanese name is「ドルフィン初号機」("S.S. Dolphin first model") even though both ships are unrelated, as the S.S. Dolphin is Olimar's personal spaceship; meanwhile the Hocotate Freight Ship is a Hocotate Freight company ship used for cargo transportation and treasure collection.
