Gale Strike (トルネードショット,Tornado Shot), known asTornado Strike in thePAL version ofSuper Smash Bros. 4, is one of threeneutral special moves for theMii Swordfighter.
Overview[edit]
When this move is used, the Mii Swordfighter spins in place then slashes, sending a swirling gale forward. The gale speeds up as it moves, and hits enemies multiple times as it passes through them[1]. If the gale slides off an edge, it will fall slightly before continuing forward in a straight line[2]. The move is aesthetically similar toLink'sGale Boomerang, but behaves more like theOre Club's tornadoes. The attack is also capable of destroying some objects, such asDiddy Kong's bananas. If an opponent touches the tornado during its final frames of animation, they will not take any damage and simply be lifted up (or pushed backwards) by it, boosting their recovery. If the Swordfighter uses Gale Strike in midair, they will gain a bit of upwards momentum.
InUltimate, the move travels a shorter distance overall, only hits once instead of multiple times, and has lost its pushing ability. To compensate, it deals much more damage, launches much faster, and has been repurposed into an extremely effective combo starter, dealingset knockback (albeit not weight-independent) and keeping enemies in areeling animation for a long duration. This allows it to combo into aerials orHero's Spin at any percent. Additionally, the move now hastranscendent priority, meaning that it cannot cancel out other projectiles but also cannot be canceled out by any attacks.

Trivia[edit]
- Gale Strike is one of the few attacks in theSmash Bros. series that use wind as a method to deal direct damage. Most existing wind-based attacks in the series are either custom moves (likeIke's Tempest custom move forEruption) or simplypush forces.
