Freezies (フリーザー,Freezer), areenemies from the originalMario Bros. game.
Origin[edit]
Freezies, along with theShellcreepers and theSidesteppers, made their debut inMario Bros. as "Slipice". They are ice creatures with simple eyes and a jagged frown
Freezies emerge from the pipes on the upper portion of the stages, move from one side to the other, and then eventually covers one of them in ice, destroying itself in the process and making the platform extremely slippery. They can be defeated either by being hit from below or with thePOW Block. Defeating Freezies is not required to clear a level; however, if the player comes into contact with one, they will lose a life.
Freezies would continue to be a part of theMario cast, but primarily as obstacles of ambiguous sentience, with their biggest modern claim to fame aside fromSmash arguably beingSherbet Land, a race track featured inMario Kart: Double Dash!! andMario Kart 8. Freezie also appears as a boss inDance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, the holder of the fifth Music Key stolen byWaluigi, where it dances to a remix ofFever fromDr. Mario by thrusting to the left and right cartoonishly, compensating for its lack of limbs.

InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
The Freezie debuts as an item inSuper Smash Bros. Melee.
When a Freezie appears, it slides across the stage on its own, speeding up if it encounters a slope. When picked up and thrown, any character hit by the Freezie will befrozen and knocked upwards. Freezies can break if attacked before being picked up. Freezies canKO characters at respectable percentages, as well as keeping characters trapped long enough to take considerable damage.
Despite their origin from theSuper Mario series, Freezies appear as an item in theIcicle Mountain stage ofAdventure Mode, which is based on theIce Climber universe.
Trophy[edit]
- Freezie
- Freezies slip and slide along smooth surfaces and will happily slide off the edge of a stage if left alone. In Mario Bros., they would stop and freeze portions of the ground; in Super Smash Bros. Melee, they can be picked up and hurled as weapons. Hit a foe with a Freezie, and he or she will be temporarily encased in a huge block of ice.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
The Freezie returns as an item.
Unlike inMelee, the Freezie'sknockback and freeze time have been considerably reduced, and frozen characters fall much slower, making it harder to KO with. Freezies are also more difficult to destroy, and they may deal damage after they are destroyed to any player standing near them and can also freeze multiple foes at once. In addition, when used or shattered, it uses the sound effects taken from theMario Bros. arcade game. If broken by a physical attack, the attacker will receive 2% damage and no knockback, but willflinch, interrupting whatever motion they're engaged in.
Trophy[edit]
- Freezie
- An item that freezes people. If you're frozen, you can't lift a finger to defend yourself. You can break out of ice by shaking the Control Stick back and forth. Hit someone with a Freezie, and you'll hear a delightful sound declaring your success, but frozen enemies don't fly very far. Freezies tend to break easily when carried.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]
The Freezie returns as an item.
Unlike in the previous games, instead of sliding off edges, the Freezies will turn around and move in the opposite direction, but it will still slide off slopes.
Trophy[edit]
- Freezie
Use this item to make a game of freeze tag chillingly literal. Once thrown, the first character to touch the Freezie will be frozen solid, turning into an easy target for a beating. If you happen to be on the receiving end, it's time to try and move around quickly to warm yourself up!

:Super Mario Advance (06/2001)
This item will slide along the ground until someone picks it up. Then the first person it hits will get frozen in a block of ice and be a sitting duck for any attacks that come their way. Careful, though – if you attack a Freezie and make it break, you might get frozen yourself! If that happens, do some wiggling around to get free!

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
The Freezie returns as an item.
Unlike in the previous games, the Freezie deals noticeably less knockback on direct hit, lacking KO potential even at high percentage when thrown, although the splash hitbox retains its KO potential. The reduced knockback can result in improved followups, however.
Spirits[edit]
The Freezie also appears as a Novice-classsupport spirit.
InAdventure Mode: World of Light, the Freezie is presumably one of the countless spirits captured byGaleem during his takeover of the universe. The Freezie spirit is located in the icy mountain section ofThe Light Realm.
The Freezie's Spirit Battle uses theIce Climbers puppet fighter and is fought on theMario Bros. stage'sBattlefield form. During the battle, the Freezie appears as the item while the Ice Climbers start off with a Freezie.
