TheFire Flower (ファイアフラワー,Fire Flower) is anitem from theMario series.
Origin[edit]
The Fire Flower made its debut inSuper Mario Bros. They pop out of ? Blocks when Mario or Luigi are in their Super states. Once obtained, they become Fire Mario / Luigi and can toss fireballs, projectiles that are fired diagonally downwards and bounce off the ground. Fireballs are very efficient at clearing out enemies quickly, being the only way to defeat underwater enemies and providing an easier time during Bowser fights.
The Fire Flower has underwent a lot of visual changes within theSuper Smash Bros. series. InSuper Smash Bros., the Fire Flower's design is based on the design fromSuper Mario Bros. InMelee, it has an unique design modeled after adaisy. FromBrawl onwards, the Fire Flower's design is based on the design fromNew Super Mario Bros., which became its standardized look. InUltimate, the fire looks more cartoony than in previous games.
Overview[edit]
As an item[edit]
The Fire Flower debuted as a shooting item inSuper Smash Bros.
While holding down the attack button, the Fire Flower spits a stream of fire. Holding the attack button will lead to longer attack times. The flames can be shot for a combined seven seconds and inflict up to 44% damage altogether. While characters could not move while using the item in the first two games, shooting items were later changed inBrawl as to allowing running and jumping while shooting such items, including the Fire Flower. While the flower can be thrown when it runs out of flames to fire, it cannot KO at any percentage, though it does inflict a burning hitbox. The Fire Flower's flames are considered to be bothreflectable andabsorbable.
InMelee, the Fire Flower can be used to cause theIce Climbers on fire glitch, which causesthe partner Climber to continuously release fire effects.

Trophies[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
- Fire Flower
- Once you grab this item, press and hold down the A Button to make the flower breathe flames until its power gives out. The Fire Flower is incredibly useful when you want to push someone off the edge of a stage. In Super Mario Bros., it transformed Mario intoFire Mario, changing his garb and enabling him to throwfireballs.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
- Fire Flower
- A flower that breathes flames when you press and hold the attack button. The flames don't last forever, though--after a while, the flower will lose its fiery power. You can also throw Fire Flowers at enemies to set them on fire for a brief moment. In Super Mario Bros., Fire Flowers were used to transform Mario into Fire Mario.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]
- Fire Flower
This Fire Flower won't transform you like in the Mario series, but it will still let you unleash some fiery damage! Holding down the attack button lets you spew fire at your opponents, dealing constant damage to them. You can also throw it at them, but it just doesn't look as cool that way.

:Super Mario Bros. 3 (02/1990)
Unfortunately, picking this up won't get you a cool outfit like in the Mario series, but you can still use it to shoot fire, and that's what matters. It doesn't do much damage on its own, but fire it continuously and it'll all add up! If you get bored, just throw it at your opponent, but don't expect a massive explosion or anything.

Trivia[edit]
- InSmash 64, level 5 and above CPUs will never use a Fire Flower against Fox or Ness, as Fox can reflect the flames and Ness can absorb them. Instead, they will always throw the Fire Flower at them.
- The design of the Fire Flower inSSB4 andUltimate is slightly different from its standard design; specifically, the outer red band of the flower is larger than usual. This is likely to make the item more visible from a far distance.
- The Power Flowers fromSuper Mario 64 DS resemble the Fire Flower design fromMelee.
