Doc Louis (ドック・ルイス,Doc Louis) is a non-playablecharacter from thePunch-Out!! series. He is a retired boxer who trainsLittle Mac in the NES and WiiPunch-Out!! games.

Origin[edit]

Doc Louis inPunch-Out!! for the Wii.

Doc Louis first appeared inPunch-Out!!. He is an ex-heavyweight boxing champion and Little Mac's coach. He can be seen training him throughout thePunch-Out!! series, and is the sparring opponent inDoc Louis's Punch-Out!!, a WiiWare game serving as a spinoff of thePunch-Out!! Wii game.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Doc Louis does not appear inBrawl in person, but he is mentioned in the description ofLittle Mac's trophy.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]

Doc Louis appears inLittle Mac's trailer forSuper Smash Bros. 4, where he is seen training him, as well as narrating the gameplay portion of the trailer as advice called out to Mac. He appears in all of Little Mac'svictory poses in the game itself, briefly sparring with him and cheering him on. Occasionally when Little Mactaunts in game, Doc can be heard cheering for him. These clips change with Little Mac's size, and can even play when Little Mac ismetal. A real life Doc Louis also appears in an American commercial forSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Victory pose dialogue[edit]

In all of Little Mac's victory poses, Doc is seen saying one of the following phrases:

• "You win, Mac!"
• "Was that a little too easy for ya, son?"
• "Nice work, Mac. You got it all figured out."
• "World Circuit's all yours, Mac!"
• "(in tandem with theannouncer) And the winner is... Little Mac! Hahaha!"
• "Ya got what it takes, Mac!"
• "Ahh, winnin' feels good, don't it?"
• "Way to go, Mac! You're the champ, baby!"
• "Alright! I think I hear a chocolate bar callin'."
• "Y'know, that belt looks good on you, son."

In addition, Doc will say one of the following phrases if Little Mac is in hiswireframe attire.

• "Nice moves, Mac. I could barely keep my eyes on ya, son."
• "Ain't you flashy? You making my eyes water, son."
• "You're lookin' mighty good, son. Just like old times, huh?"

InSmash Tour[edit]

Doc Louis also appears as a blue item in Smash Tour. When his trophy is used in a turn of the game board, it boosts the effect of all powerups gathered by 1.5×.

Every great boxer needs a capable teacher. Little Mac lucked out with former famous heavyweight Doc Louis. If he's not eating his favorite chocolate bar or making jokes, he's sparring with Little Mac. He'll gladly take a knockout blow from Little Mac if it will help the boxer make it big!

Behind every great boxer is a first-class coach, and energetic former heavy-weight champion Doc Louis is Little Mac's. Now and then, he'll put his chocolate bar down, his game face on, and spar with Little Mac, throwing punches just like in his glory days. No one's happier to take a knockout blow from Little Mac than Doc Louis!

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Doc Louis reprises his appearances in Little Mac's taunts and victory poses. Due to the sped up victory animations, some of Doc's quotes are cut short, including the three wireframe-exclusive quotes.

Spirit[edit]

In addition, he appears inWorld of Light as amaster spirit. Defeating him will unlock the gym, where Doc Louis will train up to four primary spirits at a time. Spirits left in the gym will steadily gain experience, even when the game is shut off.
