Dixie Kong (ディクシーコング,Dixie Kong) isDiddy Kong's girlfriend and a major character from theDonkey Kong series.

Origin[edit]

Dixie Kong fromDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Used as the basis for her trophy inMelee. Note the knee-pads and nailpolish she used to wear and lack of earrings.

Dixie Kong originates as Diddy Kong's inseparable girlfriend and partner inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. She stood out from the rest of the playable Kongs by using her blonde ponytail as a propeller to briefly hover in the air. This is mostly used to help with alignment to land on platforms. She went on to appear in the starring role inDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! alongsideKiddy Kong. Since then, she has been one of the most recurring characters of theDonkey Kong franchise, appearing in mostDonkey Kong games outside of the original arcade series, and even being retroactively added to remakes of two games she did not initially appear in:Diddy Kong Racing andDonkey Kong Country Returns. Her original design in the SNES games had her beret feature a Rare logo pin to coincide with Diddy Kong having the Nintendo logo across his hat, as Rare was among multiple Western companies with strong ties to Nintendo at that time (known to the press as the "Ultra 64 Dream Team"), and arguably the most prominent having developed theDonkey Kong Country games and gradually approaching an eventual streak of developing multiple pivotal killer apps for the Nintendo 64, though this feature was removed in all of her new appearances following Rare’s acquisition by Microsoft in September 2002, though Rare elements were not omitted from rereleases of earlierDonkey Kong games. Much likeDiddy Kong andKritter, the acquisition of Rare led to Dixie making appearances in mainlineMario titles starting withMario Superstar Baseball in 2005, though these have been highly infrequent.

Dixie is very brave and has a love for adventure, especially with her boyfriendDiddy Kong. She is also friendly with most other Kongs, particularly her cousin Kiddy Kong and her younger sisterTiny Kong. While Dixie can be childish and a diva at times, specifically being prone to throwing tantrums when defeated, she is also very energetic with a tomboyish streak, participating in many sports and always ready to pick a fight. She loves gumballs, always blowing bubbles and even using them as ammunition for her gun. She also knows how to play the electric guitar and is seen playing one several times, most notably at the end of all levels inDiddy's Kong Quest.

InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

Trophy[edit]

Dixie Kong appears as atrophy, which is exclusively obtained through theLottery.

More than just Diddy Kong's girlfriend, Dixie Kong is also a fearless adventurer and a reliable team player. She earned her wings helping Diddy rescue Donkey Kong from the clutches of King K. Rool. Dixie's amazingly quick and nimble, and she's even able to twirl her ponytail in order to float slowly through the air.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Dixie was ascrapped design for a playable character, as evidenced by leftover references for "dixie". According to Sakurai, Dixie Kong was intended to be teamed withDiddy Kong, where the two could be tagged out for each other in the midst of battle, similar to how they played inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest; the idea, however, was cut after he ran into technical issues with implementation of the idea, and only Diddy Kong appeared as a solo fighter inBrawl.[1]

In the final game, Dixie Kong appears as a trophy and asticker of her and the DK Bongo drums. She is also referenced in analternate costume for Diddy Kong.
