Darkrai (ダークライ,Darkrai) is a creature from thePokémon franchise.

Origin[edit]

Darkrai is a Dark-typeMythical Pokémon introduced inGeneration IV, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #491 as the "Pitch-Black Pokémon". It is focused around sleep and nightmares, and possesses the unique abilityBad Dreams which deals constant damage to sleeping foes. It can be considered a dark counterpart toCresselia. InGeneration IX, Darkrai received a Mega Evolution.

Dark Void is Darkrai'ssignature move, learned at level 66 in all games: it attempts to put all adjacent opponents to sleep.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Darkrai only appears as atrophy.

Trophy[edit]

Darkrai
A Pitch-Black Pokémon. It becomes active on nights of the new moon. This legendary Pokémon has the power to lull people to sleep and fill their heads with dreams. Proverbs say that Darkrai will make people have terrifying dreams on moonless nights. A Dark-type Pokémon, Darkrai uses the Dark Void move, along with Embargo, which stops foes from using held items.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]

As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Darkrai puttingLittle Mac to sleep.

Darkrai appears as aPoké Ball Pokémon inSuper Smash Bros. 4. When summoned, it uses its signature moveDark Void, throwing a dark orb thatpulls opponents in, puts them tosleep and inflicts continuous damage. This orb lasts for a decent amount of time, able to put those trapped to sleep twice if they are at low percentages. The move does 35% total if the opponent is trapped from the beginning of Darkrai's attack.

Unlike most sleep-inducing attacks, Dark Void is effective against airborne foes, causing them to float helplessly in the middle of the vortex. Once the attack ends, they will fall to the ground and go to sleep. Opponents affected are unable to act apart from move left and right until they touch the ground; this can cause aKO if they happen to fall offstage.

Darkrai has a spawn chance of12/975 from Poké Balls and40/690 from Master Balls. It cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies to both games and only the base form unless noted otherwise):

InSmash Tour[edit]

Darkrai's trophy is a red item inSmash Tour: when used, it makes a selected opponent start the battle asleep.

Trophy[edit]

Darkrai's trophy appears in both versions. InSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of theLegend of Pokémon Diamond & Pokémon PearlTrophy Box.

NTSCThis Dark-type Pokémon can cause people and other Pokémon to experience nightmares. While it is floating in the air, it tucks its legs in so far, it looks like they vanish! In battle it will use a move called Dark Void, which sucks in surrounding opponents and puts them into a deep sleep.

PALA Pokémon shrouded in mystery, Darkrai has the ability to implant nightmares into the minds of both humans and Pokémon. It has legs, but seems to prefer to float in the air. Its favourite move in this game is Dark Void. When this attack hits something, it creates a vortex that sucks in fighters and puts them to sleep.

Darkrai reappears as a Poké Ball Pokémon.

Darkrai has a spawn chance of12/1463 from Poké Balls and40/842 from Master Balls. It cannot be summoned on the following stages in a standard versus match (applies only to the base form unless noted otherwise):

Spirit[edit]

Darkrai also appears as an Ace-classsupport spirit. InAdventure Mode: World of Light, its spirit is located in the northern area ofThe Dark Realm.

Darkrai's Spirit Battle uses a blackGreninja puppet fighter and is fought on theΩ form ofLuigi's Mansion. The stage's floor is sleep-inducing, and onlyBlack Hole items spawn, referencing Darkrai's Dark Void move. Greninja also starts with a Poké Ball that can immediately summon Darkrai.

Trivia[edit]

  • A glitch with Darkrai allows players to get a large combo in Training mode: if Darkrai appears out of a Poké or Master Ball, when the opponent is trapped in its void and the player grabs them, they will get the credit for all damage taken by the opponent, with each hit counting as a new attack.
