Crew
Acrew in the context of theSuper Smash Bros. series is a group of people who officially affiliate with each other, often competitors who attend tournaments togheter. A crew can be of any size, though a crew of only two players is generally considered to be a team instead.
The purpose of a crew varies depending on the crew's own goals; in general, crews allow a particular competitive region to form a sense of camaraderie, and players in a crew often train with one another fortournaments. Crews can also allow for communication and sharing of logistics and resources, such as members coordinating room and travel to tournaments. Rivalries can also develop between crews, owing to regional differences, or a desire to simply be considered the stronger group, such as withmachinima.
Crews often challenge other crews to a style of exhibition match called acrew battle. The general format is that a member of each crew battles each other one at a time until all members of one crew are defeated.
Crews should not be confused withsponsors. A crew is an informal group that supports players within its ranks, typically with no contractual obligations between members. A sponsor is a business first and foremost that compensates individuals in some way in exchange for said players representing them at events.
