Classic Mode (SSBB)
Classic Mode is asingle-player mode inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl that encompasses characters fighting through 12 stages (14 including bonus stages) or levels, with a set amount ofstock. The mode can be attempted on fivedifficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard and Intense, and provides atrophy of the selected character upon completion, along with coins earned per every completed stage. Additionally, various awards can be given based on completedchallenges which pertain to Classic Mode (seebelow).
As opposed toMelee's randomization in characters in itsClassic Mode, each of the stages ofBrawl's Classic Mode is based on at least one predetermined universe, where characters and stages that belong to any of the universes are chosen at random. Additionally, the majority of battle types are no longer in a predetermined order (Target Smash!!, Free-for-all, and Final are the exceptions), as the stages may vary in battle types from time to time, thus randomly altering the battle types' order but no two types will appear consecutively.
The enemies on any given stage barring 11 and 12 will all be specified by a set of parameters that varies per stage, such as beingmetal or giant. There are twoTarget Smash! levels thrown into the mix of stages. The mode ends with a fight againstMaster Hand;Crazy Hand will fight as well if Classic mode is played on Hard or higher and the player arrives at Master Hand in less than nine minutes.

Trivia[edit]
- Giant battles in this mode have opponents larger than those caused by theLightning Bolt, and are the same size as when a fighter obtains aSuper Mushroom during aSpecial Smash.
- Stage 5 will always be fought onHalberd, due to onlyKirby characters being fought in stage 5, and Halberd is the only eligible stage from theKirby universe for Classic Mode. This is becauseGreen Greens is aMelee stage, which are neither selected in Classic norAll-Star Mode.
- This is the only such stage of the first ten that will always be fought on a specific stage when all characters and stages are unlocked; however, stage 1 will always be fought onBridge of Eldin ifPirate Ship isn't unlocked, stage 3 will always be fought onPokémon Stadium 2 ifSpear Pillar isn't unlocked, stage 7 will always be fought onLylat Cruise ifCaptain Falcon isn't unlocked, and stage 10 will always be fought onWarioWare, Inc. if neitherSnake norSonic are unlocked.
- Classic Mode inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl is the only one in the series (counting the1P Game fromSuper Smash Bros.) where the penultimate stage is notBattlefield (or a Battlefield-type stage). The penultimate stage for Classic Mode in this case is insteadFinal Destination.
