Chūbu is aSmash region comprised of five prefectures. These prefectures include Aichi, Gifu, Nagano, Shizuoka, and Yamashi and sometimes Mie. Traditionally, the region would also include theHokuriku region; however Hokuriku is often separated as aSmash region due to its relative isolation.
Chūbu is typically regarded as the third most significant Japanese region in Smash. The most prominent tournaments typically occur in the Aichi prefecture, around the Nagoya metropolitan area. The region hosted one of the earliest notableSmash 64 andMelee tournament series known as theJapan United Smash Festa Round-Robin. Out of this era rose players likeSigurd, a high levelMarth, andSmasher. Since then several other notable series have developed in the region in particularKarisuma,Toyota Grand Slum andUltCore, all events that regularly attract talent from all across Japan.
While Chūbu was unable to keep pace withKantō andKansai with later games, the region still saw the development of significant talent.Brawl saw the rise of many of the regions's most famous players includingDIO,Earth,Fuwa,Sigma,Taiheita,Tsu~ Summer,Uto, andYB. Earth, in particular, would become known as the world's strongestPit player in bothBrawl andSmash 4 and would be regarded as among the strongest Japanese players. Smash 4 also saw players likeHatsuyuki, ikep andLv.1 develop a reputation as some of the top players at their characters.
