Blastoise (カメックス,Kamex) is a creature in thePokémon media franchise.
Origin[edit]
Blastoise is a Water-type Pokémon introduced inGeneration I. It is listed as #009 in the Pokédex and known as the "Shellfish Pokémon". Blastoise evolves from Wartortle at level 36, which in turn evolves fromSquirtle at level 16. As ofGeneration VI, it is also capable of undergoingMega Evolution. While Blastoise was absent in the base games forPokémon Sword and Shield, it became obtainable in the games viaThe Isle of Armor DLC expansion, with a Gigantamax form.
Hydro Pump is a Water-type move with 110 base power (120 inGenerations I-V) and 80% accuracy. Blastoise and its pre-evolved forms learn it naturally by level up.
InSuper Smash Bros.[edit]
As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]
Blastoise makes its first appearance as aPoké Ball Pokémon inSuper Smash Bros. Blastoise uses Hydro Pump as its attack. It stations itself on the stage and starts firing blasts of water from the cannons on its back towards one side of the stage. The blasts of water deal 6% and making contact with Blastoise itself will deal 13%. Blastoise also moves back slightly for each blast of water and can fall off the stage if close enough to the ledge.
Blastoise has a spawn chance of1/12.
Blastoise's Japanese voice clip is from thePokémon episodeBeach Blank-Out Blastoise, and plays in the second part of the "Who is it?" segment.
InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
Blastoise makes a brief appearance in the opening sequence.
As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]
Blastoise reappears as a Poké Ball Pokémon inSuper Smash Bros. Melee. Like inSSB, it uses Hydro Pump as its attack. Oddly,CPU-controlledFox andFalco will try toreflect Hydro Pump in spite of it being immune to reflection-based hitboxes. Other CPU-controlled characters will try to counter the attack with theirshields as well. Additionally, it fires faster than inSSB and does not push itself back as far.
Blastoise has a spawn chance of25/583.
Blastoise's Japanese voice clip is the same one used inSmash 64 while its English voice clip is fromFit To Be Tide.
Trophy[edit]
Blastoise appears as a collectibletrophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in theTrophy Lottery and throughout the various single-player regular matches.
- Blastoise
- Blastoise is the next evolutionary step after Wartortle. The thick jets of water they shoot from the cannons on their backs are strong enough to cut through steel plating. When in danger, they hide inside their armored shells. Blastoise is so popular among trainers that it's considered the definitive Water-type.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
According to an interview withMasahiro Sakurai, Blastoise was briefly considered as a possible playable character before it was switched out for Squirtle, because he thought having balance with the sizes and stages of evolution would be interesting.[1]
InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]
As a background character[edit]
Blastoise appears inSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U as a background character in the Flood ChamberKalos Pokémon League.
Trophies[edit]
The Blastoise trophy is exclusive toSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U. It is part of theThe Beginning of PokémonTrophy Box.
- Blastoise
On a hot summer day, it's great to cool off by playing in a sprinkler. Don't look to Blastoise as a replacement, though—those water jets on its back are extremely powerful and would send you flying. In fact, Blastoise itself is so huge so it doesn't get blown away when it fires. Speaking of fires, Blastoise is better than a fire truck at putting them out!

:Pokémon X & Pokémon Y (10/2013)
Tempted to have a Blastoise hose the mud off your bike? Well, don't. The water jets from its rocket cannons might look perfect for that, but they'd just blast your bike into oblivion. In fact, the reason Blastoise grow so big and heavy is so they don't get blown away themselves. If your house is on fire, though, feel free to get a Blastoise to help!

:Pokémon X/Y (10/2013)
The Mega Blastoise trophy appears in both versions. Infor Wii U it is part of theMega EvolutionTrophy Box.
- Mega Blastoise
Some species of Pokémon living in Kalos have the ability to Mega Evolve, and here's one! Mega Blastoise is a bit bigger than Blastoise, and instead of two cannons on its shell, it has one huge cannon. This may seem like a downgrade, but wait—there are two on its arms! This math is easy: three is better than two.
