Big Goombas orGiant Goombas (デカクリボー,Giant Kuribo) are enemies from theMario series.
Origin[edit]
Big Goombas made their debut inSuper Mario Bros. 3 as an enemy and has become a recurring enemy in laterMario games. They are larger versions of the normal-sizedGoombas. They can be easily defeated by jumping on them; however, in theNew Super Mario Bros. series, when they are defeated by jumping, they split into smaller Goombas.
InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
As an enemy[edit]
Giant Goombas appear as enemies inAdventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary.
The Giant Goomba's behavior is similar to that of ordinary Goombas, and they share the charge as their primary method of attack. Unlike their smaller counterparts, they are much more resilient, being able to sustain multiple blows and jumps on their heads before being defeated. Giant Goombas run faster when charging and is more powerful, causing high damage and knockback. If they are targeting a player but can't reach them, a Giant Goomba may get angry, growl, and stomp in place. They also featuresuper armor to weaker attacks, which can make it difficult to stop their charging attacks.
Despite their high HP and power, Giant Goombas are still of relatively low threat. Having the same behavior as Goombas, their AI is rather basic and they take much longer to begin their charge than their smaller counterparts do. When jumped on, they are also stunned for a sizable period of time while taking 10% damage. Thus, they can be defeated with relative ease by simply jumping on their heads until they are defeated (requiring at most nine bounces on Intense), which can easily prevent them from being able to begin their charge attack.

The Giant Goomba trophy can be obtained by using theTrophy Stand on a Giant Goomba in The Subspace Emissary.
- Giant Goomba
- A giant-sized Goomba, as the name suggests. InSuper Mario 64, punching and kicking had no effect on this brute. It could be stopped like normal Goombas--by jumping on it from above. A colossal Goomba appears as the boss of world four inNew Super Mario Bros., but that's aMega Goomba, not a Giant Goomba.

InSuper Smash Bros. 4[edit]
As an enemy[edit]
Giant Goombas, now referred to asBig Goombas, appear as enemies inSmash Run, reprising their behavior from The Subspace Emissary. They feature an attack where they stomp their feet down, which damages andtrips the player. They can be easily defeated by attacking them normally or jumping on them three times. Despite their weakness, they drop above average power-ups.
Trophy[edit]
The Big Goomba trophy appears in both versions. InSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is part of theNew Super Mario Bros.Trophy Box

It's a Goomba, only bigger! And much like normal Goombas, the worst they'll do is run at you. Unfortunately, their size actually makes this attack pretty dangerous! They can also stomp to knock you off your feet. They have a lot of health, but they take massive damage from being stomped on, just like a regular Goomba. Fortunate!
These giant-sized Goombas make quite an impression. Some will net you a coin when you jump on them, and others will split up into smaller Goombas. They're often much stronger than normal Goombas, but jumping on them a few times usually does the trick. There's also an even bigger one out there: the Megasparkle Goomba. So shiny!:Super Mario 64 (09/1996)
