Aura Storm (はどうのあらし,Wave-Guiding Storm) isLucario'sFinal Smash inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Overview[edit]
After saying "Watch the power ofAura!" (波動の力をみよ!,Witness the power of the wave guide!) in Brawl, or "Max Aura!" (はどう最大!,Wave-Guide Maximum!) in Ultimate, Lucario flies to the top of the screen in the center of the stage and then shoots a powerful beam attack which can be angled left or right.
InBrawl[edit]
Any character in the way of the beam takes minordamage if they are farther away, but a lot more when up close. It also spikes with set, albeit high knockback when used up close. Lucario then holds its hands above its head as it readies the attack, before launching a large beam of Aura downwards. The attack hits multiple times before a big finisher that has significantKO power. Lucario can angle the beam sideways during both the windup and the launch, which is a decent way to catch unhit enemies, although angling can also free trapped targets (which otherwise cannot escape). The move is one of the more difficult Final Smashes to use effectively, as flying or floating characters, or characters with great vertical recovery likeLuigi andMeta Knight may be able to easily outrun the beam, while other characters can manage to dodge most of the attack depending on the stage.
As Aura Storm is an aura-based attack, it has greater power andknockback if Lucario has taken a good amount of damage. With Lucario at 170%, the beam deals 57% damage and is aone-hit KO against most characters. If Lucario activates on a character, the takeoff hit will deal 21%, making it a maximum of 78% damage and an almost guaranteed one-hit KO. It can OHKOMario when Lucario has 156% damage (roughly a 92% Aura) from the beam alone, or 107% (roughly a 63% Aura) if hit by the takeoff.
Trophy[edit]
- Aura Storm
Lucario's Final Smash. After flying off the screen, Lucario reappears in its center. It then launches a powerful Aura attack against all foes within a certain distance. The key to this attack is the ability to change its angle--it's a must to sweep slowly left and right to hit selected enemies multiple times. The last blow will send the victim flying away.

InUltimate[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, while the attack is mostly the same, Lucario will now shout "Max Aura!" (はどう最大!,Wave-Guide Maximum!), Mega Evolve intoMega Lucario, and unleash a wider beam of Aura downwards, making it harder toair dodge through it. Despite the aesthetic similarities with its previous Final Smash seeming to indicate otherwise, Lucario's Aura (therefore, damage and stock difference) still factors into the move's strength. Additionally, all opponents are slowed down in the time between Lucario initiating the Final Smash and releasing the beam, making it easier to hit with.
Instructional quote[edit]
| For Aura Storm, Lucario jumps high into the air and releases a ferocious Aura beam. To really use this move effectively, you’ve got to direct the heading of the beam by pressing left and right on the Control Stick. Try tilting the Control Stick in the direction of the enemy you want to blast before Lucario releases the beam. | ||
| Lucario Mega evolves into Mega Lucario and jumps straight up. Then Lucario fires Aura straight down. The angle of the Aura can be adjusted left or right. Aim for opponents to deal the most damage you can. |
Origin[edit]
"Aura Storm" is not an actual attack in thePokémon series. However, it resemblesHyper Beam, a special Normal-type attack that, while very powerful, forces the user to waste a turn recharging after a successful use. Most fully evolved Pokémon can learn this move, includingDeoxys and Lucario itself. Aura Storm's color scheme inBrawl resembles Hyper Beam inPokémon Battle Revolution.
While there hasn't been a move named Aura Storm in thePokémon series,an episode of thePokémon anime was named after it in both English and Japanese, airing about 6 years after the move first appeared inBrawl.
Mega Evolution is a mechanic introduced inPokémon X and Y. Only a small number of fully-evolved Pokémon, including Lucario, can Mega Evolve, and they must also hold a specialMega Stone unique to their species. Upon Mega Evolution, the Pokémon's stats increase tremendously and can easily allow it to turn the battle around. Lucario's Mega Stone is known asLucarionite.
Lucario's Burst Attack inPokkén Tournament, Aura Blast, is similar to Aura Storm, being a more powerful version ofAura Sphere in the form of a blue laser, andBrawl could be seen as partial inspiration for the move's appearance. Like Aura Storm, it is not a move seen in the mainline series.

Trivia[edit]
- Aura Storm's full length goes far beyond the lowerblast line of large stages, being 1500 units long inBrawl[1] and 650 inUltimate.[2]
- Despite its impressive length, inUltimate, it is still possible for the beam to not reach the blast zones. This can be demonstrated onPalutena's Temple, by aiming the beam to the bottom right corner of the stage, where there will be a small region which opponents can reach, most practically with theSuper Leaf, where they are out of range of the beam. Additionally, in a miniSpecial Smash, this can be done on a number of stages, including moderately sized stages likeHyrule Castle, where the beam will not even reach the right edge of the stage. Thus, under these circumstances, opponents are fairly easily able to be out of range of the beam.
- InUltimate prior to 6.0.0, for unknown reasons, if Aura Storm was activated viaFinal Smash Meter, Lucario's portrait would not show.
- While Aura Storm is one of three Final Smashes to skip an installment, along withIceberg andTriple Finish, it is the only Final Smash to do so despite the user remaining in the roster fromBrawl toUltimate, as theIce Climbers,Pokémon Trainer,Squirtle andIvysaur are absent fromSSB4.
