Article on BulbapediaArticuno (Pokémon)

Articuno (フリーザー,Freezer) is a creature in thePokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Articuno's official artwork fromPokémon Red and Blue.

Articuno is an Ice/Flying-typeLegendary Pokémon introduced inGeneration I, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #144 as the "Freeze Pokémon". Along withZapdos andMoltres, Articuno is part of a trio commonly referred to as thelegendary birds. Along with the other legendary birds, Articuno received a Psychic/Flying-type Galarian form in Generation VIII.

Icy Wind is an Ice-type special move with 55 base power and 95% accuracy, which affects all adjacent foes and reduces by one stage the Speed of every target. Unlike itsSmash appearance, it cannot inflict the frozen status on foes. Articuno does not learn it naturally, but can learn it byTM16 inGeneration II and byMove Tutor in several later games.

InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

As aPoké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Articuno onFinal Destination.

Articuno is a legendary Pokémon that can be summoned via aPoké Ball inSuper Smash Bros. Melee. Articuno's appearance is rare due to its status as a legendary Pokémon, and general high power. Its chance of appearing out of a Poké Ball is highly increased in theevent matchLegendary Pokémon. Articuno uses Icy Wind as its attack, where it will unleash a blast of frost from its body. Any character in Icy Wind's attack radius will take 25% damage and be frozen for a few seconds, much like being affected by aFreezie. Characters that are affected by Articuno's Icy Wind will also be sent towards the top of the screen with very highknockback, with most characters (except forfast fallers and mostheavyweights) beingOHKO'd onFinal Destination. Articuno's attack cannot harm the summoner.

Trophy[edit]

Clouds gather, the barometer plunges, and fresh snow falls from the frigid air when this legendary Pokémon takes wing. Graceful and elegant, it boasts long tail feathers that flap in the wind and are lovely to behold. As would be expected, its combat moves are based on its cold nature; they includeIce Beam andBlizzard.

Trophy[edit]

Articuno only appears as a trophy exclusive to the 3DS version.

NTSCThe air around Articuno is always cool, and it can make snow fall on even the hottest of days. It must be the perfect Pokémon to have around in summer! Then again, do you really want to be the one to use a Legendary bird Pokémon as an ice machine? Let's just think this through for a minute.

Then again, do you want to be the one to use a Legendary Bird Pokémon as an ice machine? You'd just get the cold shoulder from the whole Pokémon community.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Spirit[edit]

Articuno appears alongsideZapdos andMoltres as a Legend-classprimary spirit.

Articuno uses a cyanLucas puppet fighter, and is fought on theFind Mii stage'sBattlefield form. He is fought along with the orange and red Lucas puppet fighters representing Zapdos and Moltres respectively. During the battle, the Lucas puppet fighters will reflect projectiles, referencing the Legendary birds' defensive abilities. The cyan Lucas puppet fighter also frequently usesPK Freeze, referencing Articuno's Ice type.
