Article on Lylat WikiAndross

Andross (アンドルフ,Andorf) is the main antagonist of theStar Fox series.

Origin[edit]

Andross, as he appears inStar Fox.

Andross was originally the lead scientist of theCornerian Defense Force alongsideGeneral Pepper, both having an intense rivalry. Andross primarily focused on weapons for war, of which one experiment ended up destroying an entire city onCorneria. For this, Andross was banished to the desolate planetVenom. Years later, rumors popped up that Andross was becoming more active on Venom, so team Star Fox was sent to investigate. During this time, Andross hired Star Fox memberPigma Dengar to betray and sabotage the team. Pigma's betrayal resulted in the supposed death ofJames McCloud.

Several years after this incident, Andross began an invasion to conquer the Lylat System. The new Star Fox team, with assistance from the Cornerian Defense Force, would challenge Andross in a series of battles that would come to be known as the Lylat Wars. These events came to a head whenFox seemingly defeated Andross and saved the Lylat System.

However, Andross survived the attack, albeit as a spirit, and discovered theKrazoa Spirits. Andross learned that if all spirits were to be brought together, he could resurrect himself and continue his plans of conquest. He obtained one of the spirits by trickingKrystal into handing one over, then trapping her in a crystal to siphon her power for himself. Andross also tricked Fox into releasing all of the spirits so he could capture him and resurrect himself, but Fox defeated him, this time for good. After these events,Andrew Oikonny, Andross' nephew, attempted to continue Andross' ambitions, even flying a ship that could transform into a form similar to Andross'. This "Andross wanna-be", as Falco derides it, is easily defeated by the Star Fox team. During the battles against the Anglar forces, a holographic projection of Andross claiming to be his ghost guarded his biochemical weapons on Titania.

Star Fox Zero features a storyline similar toStar Fox 64, with Andross once again waging war against Corneria. Andross converts the entire planet of Venom into a teleportation device and uses it to kidnap General Pepper, who reveals to Fox that Andross developed the technology under the supervision of the Cornerian army. But when Andross grew mad with power, Pepper used the technology to banish Andross to another dimension, an effort in which James McCloud was instrumental. Andross appears similarly to hisStar Fox 64 incarnation, but when confronted inside the protected structure he erects, he is covered with metallic armor, similar to his polygonalStar Fox form.

The mechanical incarnation of Andross, the basis for his Assist Trophy appearance, first appeared inStar Fox, which used filled 3D polygons to render objects, items, and bosses in the game, including himself. His main method of attack, as inStar Fox, is to inhale and spit out polygonal, metallic tiles at the player.

Trophies[edit]

Andross appears as two different trophies, one based on his SNES design and another based on his Nintendo 64 design.

Star Fox's archenemy. Whether it's a metallic manifestation of Andross or just a hologram is unknown, but from its outward appearance, it's safe to assume that it's not the fiend's true form. Andross occasionally sucks matter in and then violently exhales, sending out a cloud of metal tiles. Its eyes are its weak points.

This incarnation of Andross was so big as to be ridiculous, but it at least appeared to be a living being. Andross was once a brilliant scientist, but was banished from the galaxy for his dangerous experiments. From the planet Venom, he readied his troops and directed his sword of vengeance toward the Lylat System.

He took his research too far, and the disastrous results labeled him a Level 1 offender, resulting in his banishment to the nearby planetVenom. After building a base and declaring himself emperor, he swore he would rule the Lylat system. Thanks toTeam Star Fox's heroism, the madman has yet to achieve this.

Trivia[edit]

  • Andross,Nintendog, andZero are tied for having the most spirits for an Assist Trophy with 3 each; in this case, Andross, Andross (Star Fox 64 3D), and Andross (True Form).
  • InBrawl andSSB4, when Andross is summoned on stages with certain large objects placed in the background, Andross can barely be seen, with only uncovered parts of Andross' face being noticeable. InUltimate, Andross' model is transparent when directly behind background objects.
