Great show. Bit of a weird line up; Moonspell was good but fairly different in style than SepticFlesh, and Deathstars was some sort of weird shock/synth rock that didn't really fit in. It drew a very diverse crowd, which ended up being quite small but quite energetic.
SepticFlesh was great as always. Their inclusion of orchestral backing tracks means that they are slightly less busy playing their instruments than other bands might be, so they always have the attention to spare to put on a great show. Their bassist always does crazy stuff like having his bass just hanging back and to one side of his thigh (he wears it super low) and strumming it with his right hand while he uses the other hand to pump up the crowd and show the horns.
Krimh, their new drummer (ex. Decapitated, sat in with Behemoth, and has also produced two solo albums) was amazing. He does play with triggers, but unlike many drummers who seem to rely on triggers to get a strong sound from their drums, he plays extremely hard and is very accurate in his drum hits, producing an extremely solid sound. Many drummers use the flying fingers technique for blast beats, sacrificing some power to allow the sticks to move very fast. Krimh does not, using his wrists entirely, producing brutally powerful blasts.
The death metal and gothic metal shows are not for the fainthearted, but if you’re willing to get a bit sweaty and pushed around a little bit, a Septic Flesh show will be one of the best concerts you’ll ever go to. Although the band have broken up and added new members over the years, their reformation and current set up provide what I think is a fresh and exciting spin on their sound, stopping the music from going stale from being dormant over the years.
The show opened with a huge projection of the band’s name on a screen behind the stage, followed by an image of them all in costumes, to which they ran out on stage, arms in the sir, shouting out to us in the crowd. From the first chord that Christos Antoniou struck on his guitar, the whole band were totally immersed in the theatrics of the show, with Spiros speaking directly to the audience to get us hyped for the show.
They played a great selection of tracks, and when they sand Prototype, they had everyone create a circle in the middle of the floor and run towards and around each other, dancing like crazy. All the while, the band were playing incredible tracks to amazing standards whilst dancing intensely themselves. Their stamina and talent is astounding, and it really was one of my favourite shows.
The concert was great. Staff was helpful. Thy Antichrist opened the show. Then came Dark Funeral with an INSANE set list then septicflesh closed the slow and I think the lead singer saw me a couple of times (helped I was waving my arms a lot haha.) All in all good show. 10/10 Would sacrifice a baby goat
