I have been a fan of The Muffs since their first album and line-up. Having been to countless shows over a nearly 25 year period, The Muffs are as awesome as they ever were!!! Kim and the guys never disappoint when it comes to their live shows! Bassist Ronnie Barnett is an excellent musician and stage presence who always gives a great active performance throughout the show from beginning to end. Drummer Roy McDonald is fantastic at giving wild kick-ass drum performances as well. Kim Shattuck is always wonderful on guitar and vocals, including her trademark yell! The show was excellent and the band played a good mix of new songs as well as many from their long catalogue. They rocked the place good and the crowd was a mix of mostly long time fans and some newer fans. The band's funny banter with each other is another enjoyable spectacle. They are so down to earth and friendly, you can't help but like them personally. Lastly, they never turn down an autograph or photo with their fans. That means a lot, because I go to a TON of concerts and sometimes the performer or band are jerks who don't care about the fans and or play favorites when it comes to autographs, etc. (Todd Rundgren and others!). So, if you like cool rockin' music, great melodies and an unforgettable concert..........GO SEE THE MUFFS!!!!!
The Muffs are a plain and simple rock band from Southern California. They were formed in 1991 by Kim Shattuck. They have six studio albums out and tonight is completely in promotion of their latest album “Whoop Dee Doo” a punk rock collection of songs, released on Burger Records. This album features some catchy melodies and some proper grit that makes you want to dance from start to finish not worrying about beer being thrown point blank at your chest. They are definitely punk rock when they perform these tracks live, Shattuck is a very “give a sh*t” kind of performer with her screaming voice, which is barely in tune for the whole set, but no one is really bothered. This audience jump up and down throughout the set, throwing their drinks around, headbanging and just simply having a good time. Some highlights from the new album would be “Paint By Numbers” and “I Get It”, both of which are pretty high octane punk songs but fun none the less.
White Mystery was on fire as the Muffs direct opener and The Muffs poured gasoline all over that fire and rocked the house at Reggie's to ring in 2015. The Muffs played some of their classics as while as selections from the 2014 album, Whoop De Doo.
Fun. As always. Good mix of new and old stuff. Just as crazy at in Austin almost twenty years ago, but with less sign destruction and alcoholism. White Mystery held their own as well.
