Biography

  • Snakehips is the stage name of English chill-inspiring electronic duo Oliver Lee and James Carter, who have been crafting perfect summer soundtracks since 2010. Known for working with the likes of Diplo and extensive international touring, Snakehips hails from North London, England.

Snakehips formed in 2010 playing a number of London shows and introducing their music by uploading tracks to MySpace. By 2011 with a host more shows, tracks, beats and exposure, the project began earning a series of features from the likes of i-D Magazine, culminating in his debut EP release “Hoffman West” in November 2011. Borrowing from East Coast hip-hop with the modern glitch-pop movement, the record is both pioneering and an ode to yester year. Snakehips subsequently continued to released waves of beats and samples, before embarking on a world tour including dates in Paris, Warsaw, Vienna, and Antwerp.

Following which, Snakehips produced a well-received remix of the Weeknd’s “Wanderlust”, paving the way for future remixes including Banks’ “Warm Water” and “Wild Belle’s “It’s Too Late”. By this point the project had augmented international recognition aided by the popular single “Days With You” featuring Sinead Harnett. The single subsequently earned a remix EP entitled “Days With You Remixes” featuring remixes by Sweater Beats, Porno, and Fwdslxsh. In collaboration with Tory Lanez, Snakehips issued the track “Dímelo”, followed by the single “Forever (Pt. II) featuring dance-music darling Kaleem Taylor. Taken from the EP of the same name, the record cemented Snakehips position as a respected electronic act, and has led to opening slots for Chance the Rapper and extensive North American touring.

Live reviews

  • Snakehips are making chilled electronic music perfect for beach and pool parties and club nights alike. Tracks like 'On My Own' and 'Miss U Always' are sun-kissed to perfection, with breezy vocals soaring over the chilled beats. And then there's the curveball TNGHT-esque track, 'Make It', a fast paced, pitch-shifted, hip-hop influenced all round more intense release. They have also remixed Banks' 'Warm Water', The Weeknd's 'Wanderlust' and Wild Belle's 'It's Too Late' - a great trio of reworks which are up on their SoundCloud page with thousands of plays. These remixes are often dropped into their sets. Their love of hip-hop and electronic music came to life in their set at Nottingham's Everywhere festival earlier this year, where every beat of the previously mentioned tracks made people like myself leave the set with huge smiles over our faces. If you are a fan of Bondax, TNGHT and/or Disclosure, then you are sure to like Snakehips. They have a new single out next month in 'Days Are Gone', featuring sultry vocals from Disclosure collaborator Sinead Harnett and play Reading and Leeds festival this weekend. So be sure to check them out before they jet off later in the year for a North American tour!

  • First, the location posted on Songkick was incorrect - luckily, I received an email when I got my ticket with the correct address. Second, my friends and I arrived later to the venue than the concert was advertised to begin, but we still had to stand outside in the rain waiting to get inside for at least a half hour because there was only one line to get in. So we find out that only one of the members of Snakehips even came to perform, which was not advertised! And the stage was in a narrow part of the venue so the crowd was very deep and you couldn't see anything unless you were up close to the stage. We felt ripped off. Not well organized and Snakehips was not personable whatsoever. No crowd interaction. Probably the most boring EDM concert I've been to.

  • SO DOPE. I was afraid when I got there at 9 (there was nobody there) that maybe a Tuesday wasn't the best day for a night show in BK. Everything was up and running by 10 Louie Lastic started us off really well, but the crowd was sparse.

When Pomo came on, though! The crowd was a bit over half full, everyone was vibing. The venue is great, no trouble on getting a good view of the stage and lots of room to dance! Definitely made a fan of me that night.

Snake Hips absolutely SHUT IT DOWN. They played every song I wanted and some more that I now want to download. They played "International Players Anthem" and my friend turned to me and screamed "This is one of the best nights of my life!" I had no arguments there.

  • I absolutely loved the show! I had the best night and the T-shirt guy was awesome! Seats were great, the vibe was great and the song selections were awesome. Would've been even greater if they had mixed some local artists into the set...some E40 or old school Celly Cell or the Luniz, just to show the bay some love. Surprised to have Malika come out on stage to perform one of my favorite jams. I would definitely pay to see Snakehips again!

  • Amazing! Snakehips killed it, mixed original stuff with new mixes. Had so much fun and Concord Music Hall is by far the best music venue in Chicago! I highly recommend!
