The design was selected in 2013 from among entries submitted by students and faculty. As a friendly character, he appears in costume at open campus events and various other occasions.

Soka University has three mascots that represent Founding Spirit. In 2013, the university called for nominations from students, faculty, and staff for the "Soka University Mascot," and the mascots were selected from 120 entries.
"DEE-kun" takes the form of a lion.
We will continue to take on challenges, no matter what difficulties we face.
"ETANY-chan" in the form of a phoenix.
We believe in infinite possibilities and soar high.
"GLOBO" takes the form of a whale.
Deepen the bonds of friendship and protect world peace.
