Play Acclaim showcase ends with surprise Katanaut release
Acclaim closed its presentation by showing off new footage of Katanaut, which is available on PC today.
Acclaim wrapped up its return showcase with a look at a cosmic horror adventure aboard a mysterious space station. A lone samurai warrior with his trusty katana at his side must fend off growing hordes of the undead. Katanaut is described as an action roguelite Metroidvania and it's available for PC players right now.
Katanaut follows main character Naut across the remains of what was once an active space station. Naut must survive as he attempts to dive further into the space station. If he falls short, he'll be brought back to life at the start of the station to try again. Players must master their developing abilities and balance them with Souls-style sword combat.
While the sudden PC release is a surprise for anybody watching the Play Acclaim showcase, developer Voidmaw had actually had this release date in mind forseveral weeks. The game was first revealed back at the Future Games Show presentation during this year's Gamescom. The developer spent the time between that announcement and Wednesday's presentation giving the game a final round of polish. The game had previously left an impression on PC players through a Steam Next Fest demo released earlier this year.

Katanaut is out today on PC, but it's also slated to come to consoles. A console release date will be revealed in the future.
Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
