Senate Historical Office
Serving as the Senate's institutional memory, the Historical Office collects and provides information on important events, precedents, dates, statistics, and historical comparisons of current and past Senate activities for use by members and staff, the media, scholars, and the general public.



Biographical Directory of Congress
Thisdatabase provides brief biographies of over 12,000 individuals who have served in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Each biographical record includes lists of archival repositories housing formermember’s papers and related materials and bibliographies of scholarly works related to their careers.



Bibliography
This selectivebibliography, compiled by theSenate Historical Office, is designed to provide general readers and scholars with a guide to articles, documents, and books on the institutional development of the Senate. In addition to covering the fundamental powers of the Senate, the bibliography includes sources on Senate practices, customs, and rules of procedure.



Publications
A selection of publications by the Senate Historical Office, the Office of Senate Curator, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the Library of Congress related to Senate art and history.



Senate Archives
Committee and administrative records of the Senate are preserved and made available for research by theCenter for Legislative Archives at the National Archives and Records Administration. For more information on how to research Senate records, see theGuide to the Records of the U.S. Senate.
