A humanoid horse, BoJack Horseman -- lost in a sea of self-loathing and booze -- decides it's time for a comeback. Once the star of a '90s sitcom, in which he was the adoptive father of three orphaned kids (two girls and a boy). The show was the hottest thing around, then suddenly, was canceled. Now 18 years later, BoJack wants to regain his dignity. With the aid of a human sidekick and a feline ex-girlfriend who is his agent, he sets out to make it happen. But Hollywood is vastly different from those days, and getting used to stuff like Twitter may take some time. This first animated series from Netflix -- with plenty of references to sex, drugs and alcohol -- is not for the little ones.

The show's fourth season is not just its best, it's the finest single season of a comedy in ages, though the persistent melancholy and focus on shame and guilt mark it as a comedy-drama. Go to Full Review

While the season encounters a slight slowdown midway through, the journey is well worth going on to reach a satisfying conclusion. Go to Full Review

With a deft hand, "Bojack Horseman" sways between absurdist delight and soul-crushing sadness. Netflix has made its quietly best show yet. Go to Full Review

Through its satire, it [BoJack Horseman] continues to bite at the highest of comedic levels, while giving us true character development and depth afforded to few other series. Go to Full Review Read all reviews
Kat C.@katticaJun 21Time’s Arrow is top 5 favorite episodes of television. See more David W03/04/2024BoJack Horseman’s fourth season begins in the aftermath of a dark third season finale. The season navigates this well and the storyline gradually becomes lighter as it continues. A new character offers more opportunity for BoJack's development, as is seen in both this season and implied for the coming season in the finale. It was one of the best of the series and is one I would recommend and watch again. See more Corey W02/10/2023Season 4 of Bojack Horseman continues the series' examination of the things that make us the most human through a lens comprised largely of non-human characters. This season introduces Hollyhock, Bojack's illegitimate daughter. Through Hollyhock Bojack reunites with his mother, Beatrice, who the show has been largely unkind to overall. Beatrice is a bitter old woman whose life didn't turn out the way she'd hoped. But the things that comprise her character, like most of the expertly unraveled characters on the show, are more complex than we'd initially thought. It's a journey into the same deep introspections that we've been studying for the first three seasons, but this angle of familial love is new. Couple this with Princess Caroline trying her utmost to start a family of her own, Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter's journey out of the "honeymoon" phase of marriage, and Todd's journey to discover himself and you have another emotional tsunami of a season. As always, these emotional lows are crafted alongside some clever and truly hilarious comedic scenes for a blend of adult animation unlike anything else on television. Truly some of the most impressive emotional range on television. See more Blue Moon T01/04/2023The season-long arc with Hollyhock distracted from the usual chaotic dark psychological dramedy slice of life charm that Bojack typically delivers while there are still amazing character growth for the whole cast. See more Daniel O@Olshansk11/28/2022Though the show started as a sitcom with the main character and a few supporting actors, I now have a deep sense of compassion as if every character has been a life-long friend. See more chris f10/21/2022For better or worse, this is it. This is what Bojack it. It's a too-smart-for-it's-own-good sitcom with dumb, often masturbatory jokes, really desperate to be whacky, zany, and fun to fit in the mold of the typical western television show. And then it dips into these moment of pure genius, raw emotion, or nihilistic heartbreak. The juxtaposition is enough to give you whiplash, and I really wish I didn't have whiplash. And yet... it really is unique, and there aren't stories being told like it. It earns its place, even if it drunkenly stumbles every step of the way. See more Read all reviews
