A humanoid horse, BoJack Horseman -- lost in a sea of self-loathing and booze -- decides it's time for a comeback. Once the star of a '90s sitcom, in which he was the adoptive father of three orphaned kids (two girls and a boy). The show was the hottest thing around, then suddenly, was canceled. Now 18 years later, BoJack wants to regain his dignity. With the aid of a human sidekick and a feline ex-girlfriend who is his agent, he sets out to make it happen. But Hollywood is vastly different from those days, and getting used to stuff like Twitter may take some time. This first animated series from Netflix -- with plenty of references to sex, drugs and alcohol -- is not for the little ones.

Amid a slate of TV shows where story arcs are neatly wrapped up and protagonists come to upbeat epiphanies over the span of 30 minutes, Bojack is a soothing balm of darkness. Go to Full Review

Once [the show found its stride]...it revealed a great sensitivity alongside its earthier elements, as well as a wonderful articulacy in unpacking our quotidian burdens and entertainment-industry conventions. Go to Full Review

What holds BoJack Horseman together in the early goings is largely the work of its cast. Go to Full Review

The writing is sharp, the jokes are layered, and the situations are hilarious, but there's a melancholy undercurrent to the series. Despite being a horse, Bojack is also one of the most human characters on television. Go to Full Review
Anghus Houvouras Flickering Myth02/28/2020
While BoJack Horseman might not be the flashiest or most heralded show, it stands among the most entertaining and most original. The balance between drama and comedy makes it unique in the animated landscape and far more rewarding. Go to Full Review
Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind02/28/2020
Once BoJack looks inward, it quickly develops into a heart-wrenching tale of failure and the journey to forgive oneself, a much more complex, dark subject to handle than silly Hollywood (excuse me; Hollywoo) satires and hilarious cat jokes. Go to Full Review Read all reviews
Mark B@MarkimusCeasariusJan 26This is just terrible. I can not find a single good thing about it See more Kenzie COct 4He’s just a blatantly terrible person, there’s not much more to say about Bojack. I mean the whole commercial with him yelling at the Seal definitely brings out the comedic side of the show. This show is evidently based on reality and the mind of a narcissist, in my opinion. Some scenes I feel are a bit boring but this is definitely a far-from-average tv show. See more Saul G.@SaulG0onManSep 28Bojack Horseman Season 1 is not just your typical animated sitcom, it can be very comedic at times, but also very dark when it needs to be, as shown in the penultimate episode See more Jack K@twistedmazeboiSep 12While this season may not be nearly as interesting and well-written as the later seasons, it still serves a good introduction to the universe of Bojack Horseman and has good character development. See more Hughe J@HugheJul 25BoJack Horseman Season 1 is an animated comedy series released on streaming in 2014 and has voice overs done by William Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Aaron Paul and others. It's set in a world where humans and talking animals coexist and BoJack Horseman is an aging tv star. S1 follows the lead character on his adventures in Hollywood where he relives his past glory while simultaneously trying to restart his career. The voice over work is fine, the animation is fine, and the score is pretty good. Unfortunately most of the humor didn't land for me but I did watch the entire season as I was curious to see how it ended. Overall this was good, not great, but certainly worth a watch for animation fans. See more Madeline RMar 23One of my all time favorite shows! See more Read all reviews
