In a perfect world, he'd be happy to head-bang in his room all day to heavy metal music. But no, his mom is an angel, his old man is the devil, and like all good fathers, he insists that Nicky get involved in the family business. Nicky could think of 666 things he'd rather be doing than corrupting souls or spewing evil, but when his father's command over Hades is threatened by his bullying older brothers, it's up to unbalanced Nicky to restore the balance between Good and Evil on earth.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite the presence of a large, talented cast, the jokes in Little Nicky are dumb, tasteless, and not that funny, and Adam Sandler's character is grating to watch.

Has an enormous cast of stars, including Harvey Keitel as daddy devil. But even the stars couldn't brighten up this flick. Go to Full Review

For all the high concept gags and elaborate digital magic there are no fall down funny laughs, but there’s a steady stream of amusing asides, nutty gags, crude humor, and lewd references, all tempered by [Sandler's] gawky goofball innocence. Go to Full Review

M@DudamundoDec 27Ohh, my god. just utterly speechless as to how such a horrible excuse for a comedy can ever be made into a movie. Ugh! Cult classic todayAnyone writing a bad review doesn’t understand. It’s a fun movie with great effects even for its time. The storyline flows very well and the cast is amazing. Especially with Ozzy Osbourne may he rest in peace all these bad reviews that are recent don’t listen to them. It’s a classic with many quotable scenes. See more Mania I.@TheMania510Nov 15Upon a second viewing of this movie I found it to be quite entertaining. A very talented cast and competent direction make this a fun watch. The cameos are great. Is it perfect no. But it does want to be supposed to do and it does entertain. In some ways it may have been ahead of its time. See more TheMovieSearch R@TheMovieSearchOct 26Little Nicky is one of those comedies where the concept has potential, but the execution falls painfully flat. Adam Sandler’s performance dominates the film, and unfortunately, it leans so far into over-the-top antics that it often crosses the line from humorous to cringeworthy. The sheer intensity of his exaggerated comedic style makes some scenes difficult to sit through, as the humor feels forced rather than natural.Sandler has always been a hit-or-miss actor, and Little Nicky lands firmly on the “miss” side for me. While there are glimpses of charm in his performance, watching him carry the entire film becomes exhausting. The overacting overshadows what could have been genuinely funny moments, turning the film into an endurance test rather than an enjoyable comedy. The screenplay doesn’t help matters. It feels rough, uneven, and in need of significant rewriting. With better structure, pacing, and perhaps input from additional writers, the story could have been sharper and more cohesive. Instead, it’s a collection of disjointed jokes and sequences that never fully coalesce, leaving the audience struggling to stay invested. The casting outside of Sandler does little to elevate the material, though the department at least seemed to assemble talent with the intent of supporting the comedy. Unfortunately, the performances around Sandler are either overshadowed or unable to compensate for the film’s tonal inconsistencies.Ultimately, Little Nicky is a messy, overblown comedy that tries too hard to be outrageous. The humor is aggressive rather than clever, and the pacing feels uneven, leaving a viewer more frustrated than entertained. While some fans of Sandler may tolerate it for his signature style, for many, it’s a film that’s difficult to enjoy in full.In short, Little Nicky had potential in concept but collapses under its own excessive comedic energy, uneven writing, and overbearing lead performance. It’s a forgettable entry in Sandler’s filmography that’s more taxing than amusing. See more Read all reviews
