While at the repair factory, Val (Andy Kaufman), a robot valet, meets Aqua (Bernadette Peters), a fellow automaton who functions as a party hostess. Remarkably, the two robots discover that they are in love, and impulsively flee from their duties. Looking for a place where they can establish a home, Val and Aqua create their own mechanized child, but their happiness is short-lived, since a relentless enforcer robot has been programmed to apprehend them.

No. No. No. No!This gives me vibes of a room full of execs blasted on blow in the 80s with their finger on the green light switch. I understand Kaufmann was a "genius ahead of his time", but this should have never happened.I've seen better film on 4 day old fondue.

I remember this movie from my childhood and it has a great score, perhaps not the best photography, but a story with heart and emotions that run deeper and are somehow more real than the latest Marvel movies with 100% fresh scores. This is a movie I could watch many times over and it is a warm, simple, yet meaningful mvoie experience which I was lucky enough to experiment when I was looking for joy in my childhood :)

Bad. Holy mackerel, this is bad. I can't emphasize how bad this is. If you haven't rage-quit within ten minutes it's because you've died.

I don't understand all the hate this movie gets. It's not trying to be "Star Wars" or "Gone With the Wind". It's a sweet story of robo-love. The has great animatronics and make up effects, better than a lot of CG today. There are only the tiniest character issues. This is one of my favorite rom-coms and I would not take Andy Kaufman's offer of a refund.

I liked this movie a lot. I seen it when i was ten when it first came out back in 1981 and I've seen it on cable movie channels several times after. I even have it on VHS and DVD and watched it with my kids and they liked it too. Seems everyone here just likes to bash movies because it seems "cool". This is not the best movie ever. I just like it and it is worth watching if you were a real fan of Andy Kaufman.
