Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us' Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone. She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet's young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor's final directive? Kill Henry.

Making the most of its single-location setting, this tightly constructed, neatly crafted thriller feels—despite its use of modern technology and surveillance—refreshingly old-fashioned.

In an equally sizzling and silly smart-phone drama, Fahy and her constant cellular so easily co-exist that much of the situational absurdity likely will be excused by audiences eager to swallow the resulting thrills.

Drop is the kind of movie you go to matinees for. There is enough humor here to make some of the sillier aspects easier to excuse.

I gotta tell ya, I thought this was super fun, and as someone currently in the 'dating' scene (yeah, dating these days is its own genre of horror 😅), I definitely related to the anxiety, the apprehension, the pressure felt by the people we're following who meet for the first time on their dinner date. Also, HUGE kudos to the two leads the actress, who I don't think I recognize from anything, did terrific. I thought she did a great job being believable and super genuine in her performance and her date again, someone I don't think I've seen before was just damn likable, and he is also someone you're rooting for because, honestly, he's on the worst first date of his life. Yeah, guys, this is so worth seeing in the theaters.
