Lenny Kravitz brought his shiny pants toThe Tonight Show to debut his latest single, “Human.” Appearing with his live band, the singer offered an uplifting rendition of the track, which reflects on finding confidence in your existence.

The song comes off the rock musician’sforthcoming 12th album,Blue Electric Light, which is set to drop May 24 via Roxie Records. So far Kravitz has released one single,“TK421.” The album marks Kravitz’s first album in five years, since 2018’s Raise Vibration, as well as the first double album he’s released in his career.

Kravitz sat down with hostJimmy Fallon to tease the album, which apparently involves a lot of cowbell. The musician described the vibe of the LP as “Celebration. Life. Humanity. Love. Sexuality. Sensuality. Spirituality,” adding that the title of the album came to him late in the process of recording. He also confirmed that he plays most of the instruments on the LP alongside guitarist Craig Ross.

Last year, Kravitz wrote, performed, and produced “Road To Freedom” for Netflix biopicRustin. The song earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song – Motion Picture. Kravitz published his memoir, Let Love Rule, in 2020. It was the first of two planned books, with installment one covering his life up until the release of his 1989 debut, also titled Let Love Rule

In an interview with Rolling Stone about the project, Kravitz said, “Well, I never thought about writing the book. I don’t think that my life is that interesting. [But] I’m glad that I did because writing this book was the best form of therapy I could have ever taken. This was a story about me finding my voice and I didn’t want it to be about stardom or fame. The second book will be a far more difficult book to write. Things got intense, but I think that [writing] it will provide the same level of therapy [and] a lot will be healed.”

Last month, Kravitz took the stage at the People’s Choice Awards for acareer-spanning performance, including “Fly Away,” “TK421,” “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over,” “Let Love Rule,” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way.”
